Write up your literature review
Summarise your reflective journal focusing on yourself as leader/follower, and use theory to inform your reflection. You can use the results of the LCIA as starting point.

Prepare a personal development plan (PDP) which is focused on developing your skills as a leader (including actionable items, specific goals, expected time-frame and success Criteria).

The literature review should
be critical
evaluate contemporary literature in the appropriate area
Be of the standard required for a masters’ level (Level 7) research dissertation.
The rationale here is for you to augment your investigation by focusing on one leadership theory applying the module’s frameworks. The individual assignment should result in a report of 3500 words +/- 10%, consisting of the following:
1. Introduction
2. Organizational leadership development a literature review on the theory and practice of leadership/management in the selected organisation(s). This can be an extension of the group findings and demonstrate a conceptual and theoretical understanding of leadership and management theories and implications in practice. Indicative word count: 1500 –1650 words.
3. Personal Leadership development
a. a summary of your reflections in the leadership/management episode you were involved with. Indicative word count: 750 – 850 words.
b. PDP based on your action plan for developing your skills as a leader. Indicative word count: 250 – 300 words.
4. Conclusion to the above. Indicative word count: 500 – 550 words. The purpose of this assessment is for you to
a. demonstrate your understanding of leadership and/or management theory
b. demonstrate your ability to produce a literature review and subsequent critical analysis and evaluation
c. reflect on your learning about leadership/management
d. devise a plan to enable you to develop yourself as a leader and manager.
Through doing this you will evaluate and critique your own leadership understanding and practice, explore what you see as your strengths and weaknesses and formulate goals and plans for professional development.
This approach will encourage you to:
reflect on what you have done and learnt about yourself
identify personal development plans designed to enhance performance
demonstrate research skills: Specifically, to critically review relevant literature that will
Inform the research question, the design, the methodology and the analysis of a research project at masters’ level.
On completion you will have engaged with the concept and practice of leadership and management at a deeper level and from different perspectives. You will appreciate the diversity and challenges of doing and being leaders and managers. You will also have acquired research skills by conducting a literature review and analysing leadership/ management within particular sector and organisation(s).
