For this assignment you will write a report of approximately 2200 words in which you analyse and assess the current state of corporate entrepreneurship in a particular company. Rationale As the entrepreneurial organisation aggressively pursues the future, managers must continually assess the actual levels of entrepreneurial activity occurring within the company. To get the company where they want it to go, they must first know where the company is at present. They also must track outcomes of this activity related to innovation and the firm’s competitive position. The Entrepreneurial Health Audit was introduced as a framework for determining 1) the levels of entrepreneurship (Entrepreneurial Intensity) being achieved in the organisation, as well as 2) the extent to which the corporate environment is conducive to supporting high levels of entrepreneurship (Corporate Entrepreneurship Climate). Chapters 3 and 13 of your prescribed text provide the relevant theories and detail two validated and widely used measuring instruments for measuring Entrepreneurial Intensity (EI) and Corporate Entrepreneurship Climate (CECI). The brief Use the EI and CECI datasets (provided below) that were obtained from an Australian high-tech medical equipment manufacturer, Company ABC that has been developing and exporting a range of products for the past 15 years. The company employs 250 people in a single location in Melbourne. Hilary Trump is the CEO, supported by five general managers (R&D, Operations, Sales & Marketing, Finance and HRM) in what is largely a functional-type organisational structure. The EI dataset consists of six responses, those of the CEO and the five general managers, while the 15 responses in the CECI dataset are anonymous. Use these datasets to analyse and assess the current state of corporate entrepreneurship in the chosen company, and write approximately 2,200 words (excluding appendices) in which you present and interpret your findings. In your report you must clearly distinguish between Entrepreneurial Intensity (EI) and the Climate for Corporate Entrepreneurship. It also sheds light on how to calculate the various Health Audit indices. Things to consider • Have you calculated all the relevant indices? • Have you accounted for differences in responses to the same question? • Have you synthesised the responses into meaningful interpretations? • Have you followed a systematic approach in presenting your findings? Assessment criteria Writing Guidelines and Marking Schedule Please present your report in the following format. Some content guidelines are provided within each section but feel free to change this as you see fit. Please also refer to the rubric for this assessment item. 1. Introduction Purpose of the report; Company overview (make things up as you go). 2. Theoretical Concepts A brief introduction to and overview of key theoretical concepts and definitions that will enable the reader to understand the report. Keep it short and simple and don’t make it read like a text book. It is important to introduce the concept of various antecedents or indices at different levels of analysis and how these inform the state of entrepreneurial health in the organisation. Explain the conceptual difference and connection between Entrepreneurial Intensity and the Climate for Corporate Entrepreneurship. 3. Research Methodology You may wish to briefly discuss the following: • Description of data collection methods (types of questions in the two online surveys); • The use of Likert scales (see Likert Scale) for capturing subjective data (see Subjective vs Objective) • The fact that both surveys are validated instruments (refer to page 363 of prescribed text); • Population and sample characteristics (see What is the difference between a population and a sample?) that may include reference to which division of the company participated in the surveys, how many people participated in the surveys, what their demographics are, their level in the organisation, etc.); 4. Data Analysis and Discussion Description of statistical techniques used (average – link to Average, standard deviation - link to Standard Deviation); Part A: Assessing Entrepreneurial Intensity (calculate indices for EI, Frequency of Entrepreneurship, Degree of Entrepreneurship, Innovativeness, Risk-taking, Pro-activeness); Figure of the Entrepreneurial Grid; Interpretation of data. Part B: Assessing Climate for Corporate Entrepreneurship (analyse and discuss each of the six categories separately and calculate indices for CECI, Management Support, …, Organizational Boundaries, but not for Specific Climate Variables; Interpretation of data; Comment on the individual questions within each category that deviate remarkably from the average (above and below) and those questions with large standard deviations. Do not forget to interpret the findings of the Specific Climate Variables. Where possible, complement observations of survey data with appropriate insights from interviews. 5. Conclusion Summarise the main issues and interpret the relative findings of the two surveys. Synthesise all of the above sections into a cohesive whole. Suggest what the next steps are. Please note: you don’t have to make any recommendations; this assignment is only about analysing and assessing the entrepreneurial health of the company. Format Your findings must be documented in the format of a management report. Please refer to the report template here. You can edit and modify its appearance to your liking. Report Length 2200 words, excluding references and appendices. Assessment criteria Please refer to and be guided by the rubrics for this assignment. You can find the rubric here. Weighting The report carries a weighting of 30%. Submission requirements Submit the final report via Moodle (TurnItIn) before or on the due date.
