Information for owner/CEO/director/GM
This student(s) from Deakin University are approaching you to request the opportunity to:
• talk to you (and staff if applicable and permitted) about your organisation’s business strategies
• prepare reports which summarise the outcomes of their review.
Student(s) are required to get permission from the owner, CEO, director or general manager of the business who is authorised to give such permission for your organisation to be involved.
The only involvement requested by the student(s) is some of your time to talk to them about your organisation, plus the time of relevant staff if applicable and you permit. This time commitment might be at one or multiple talks prior to the due date of their reports. If you permit, they may also benefit from observing your current business practices and blank versions of forms, but this is not essential.
The students will ask about business strategies, which could include:
• the organisation’s main business goals
• nature or categories of clients you service
• types of products/services provided to clients
• types of information exchanged with clients and how
• challenges the organisation faces in dealings with suppliers and customers
• competitive landscape of the industry
You have complete control over what information you will provide. The assignment does not require student(s) to use financial information, so there is no need to provide such information. It is recommended you do not provide commercial-in-confidence or sensitive information. You may request to review, and request removal of information from, the reports prior to submission. A rule of thumb is that only information you would be happy to appear on your organisation’s public website should be provided.
The students will prepare reports and submit these to Deakin University for assessment. Initially the students will present a review of your organisation’s strategies and get feedback from staff. They will then prepare a final report. All report drafts and the final version will be submitted via an online learning management system which is only accessible to staff.
You will receive a copy of the students’ final report. The report is only for assessment purposes in the subject MIS712. Students are required to make recommendations, but you should not rely upon or use the report in any way as the basis for making “real-life” commercial decisions.
The main benefit to your organisation from participating will be the opportunity for you to reflect on your strategies, which you may not have had the time to do.
Thank you for giving the student(s) an opportunity to gain a valuable learning experience in applying their knowledge to a real organisation. If you have questions or concerns, please contact me below.
Kind regards,
Letter of Consent
