Proposal guideline  The proposal does not have to be lengthy but must adequately convey what the project will cover and what the deliverables will be. Consider this proposal as a one you would submit to get hired for an actual contract. Basically, the proposal should clearly tell the client what they will be getting if you are hired to do this work. The organization of a research proposal is usually very simple. It should have the following components: 1. Summary: The abstract is a concisely written summary of the that includes the hypothesis statement, a brief discussion of background information, scope and objectives of the proposed work, methods to be used, expected results, and the study’s significance. 2. Introduction: General description of the problem under consideration Clear statement of the research question or hypothesis to be addressed Clear statement of the research objectives General summary of the methods that will be used to achieve the objectives. The introduction begins with a general discussion of the topic area and then a statement of your specific hypothesis. The significance of the question(s) to be addressed and the impact the proposed work will have on these questions should be addressed. A short statement about how the rest of the proposal is organized is sometimes included in this section a. Background or Literature Review: Provide a thorough review of relevant information that has been done on the topic. This should include a summary and analysis of published literature and reports. Railway Engineering - CIVL 0014 - Spring 2017 - CW 5 b. Objectives: This section describes what work will be done. Also, the goals and the objectives of the work to be performed may be described in this section. 3. Research Methods: Describe how the research will be conducted. Identify methods of collecting data. Provide diagrams of experimental equipment to be built. Identify analytical methods to be use (give references). Provide maps showing locations of field sampling stations. Develop the theory of modeling studies. Identify sources of information and numerical methods you will use to complete your study, including a complete explanation of the methods of data collection, experimental setups, analysis methods, and statistical tools that will be used to analyze the data. Include a detailed description of all of the major steps of the study, the assumption you will make, and the limitations of the methods you will use. 4. Expected Results: Include a detailed discussion of any calculations or experiments you have already completed, as well as what new results are expected from your proposed study in this section. Restate the significance of the proposed work here. 5. References: References should be presented using the same formatting style as will be used in the final project/thesis/dissertation. 6. Copy and paste from the Internet sources is strictly not acceptable and will be treated as a plagiarism and will be dealt with as per polices given below  All assessments should be marked out of 100 marks and scaled down to the corresponding assessment weightage as given in the assessment matrix; however the complexity of the assessment shall remain as per that weightage. For e.g coursework have a weightage of 50 will be set out of 100 and the corresponding answers will be evaluated out of 100 marks. If the student scores 75 marks for this test, then his/her actual mark component for this assessment will be 37.5 out of 50.  The course work (Internal Assessment) marks are provisional until the Exam Board has approved the same at the end of the semester.  A minimum of 50 per cent, based on the overall performance in all the assessments put together is required for passing the module. However, there is an additional pass requirement in the case of all modules that have coursework assessment and end semester examination components: Students shall be considered to have passed such modules only if they have scored a minimum of 35% marks in the external examination (end semester examination threshold pass mark) in addition to attaining an overall aggregate pass mark of 50%. (* The regulation on end semester threshold pass mark shall be applicable to all students joining MEC from spring 2017 semester onwards ). Railway Engineering - CIVL 0014 - Spring 2017 - CW 6  Student should submit a proposal for the CW with a maximum of 10% of the assessment marks Grading Policy Grade Grade Point Marks A 4.00 91 to 100 A- 3.75 87 to 90 B+ 3.50 84 to 86 B 3.25 80 to 83 B- 3.00 77 to 79 C+ 2.75 74 to 76 C 2.50 70 to 73 C- 2.25 66 to 69 D+ 2.00 60 to 65 D 1.75 50 to 59 F 0.00 < 50 7.
