Understand the role of HR in the managing of contemporary business issues and external contexts 4. Understand how organisational and HR strategies and practices are shaped and developed 5. Know how to identify and respond to short-term changes in the business and external contexts. Assessment Brief You are required to carry out an investigation into the organisation where you work, or an organisation with which you are familiar. The investigation focuses on the role of the HR function in the activities of the organisation, and the link between business and HR strategies. A report written for a Managing Director, your report should have four sections, covering the following issues: • an identification and analysis of the major forces shaping the HR activities (Impact of supplier and impact of customer) within the organisation. (4 forces grievances, absenteeism, disciplinary, retention) • an examination of HR’s roles within the organisation and the extent to which HR contributes to sound business ethics (Whistle blower policy, corporate Social Responsibilities), effective accountability and organisational effectiveness (Hiring the best talent) (a Brief description about how HR roles works in Nando’s Qatar) (HR is a central support team in all Nando’s branches in Qatar. Head of HR and 2 HR Executives who look after all 8 stores) • a review of the organisation’s business and HR strategies, incorporating SWOT and STEEPLE analyses (Social, Technological factor), and a commentary on the extent to which there is vertical and horizontal integration of strategies within the organisation (to be put in a table under appendix) • an assessment of how the organisation measures the effectiveness of these strategies and communicates them within the organisation, including the provision of costs where appropriate.(reduce staff turnover/Employee retention, reduce absenteeism,) ( list down the ways of communication, Memos, Roadshows, Town hall meetings) Evidence to be Produced A report written for a Managing Director, that includes clear recommendations. It should be approximately 3000 words in length, together with a list of cited References and a separate Bibliography of sources consulted but not specifically mentioned (but these should be excluded from the word count).
