Strengths Weaknesses
1. What are you good at? (E.g. things that you do well, specific skills that you have developed, personal characteristics etc.)
I have good writing skills which gives me the inspiration to write something to motivate others. I am very patient and always listen to others before making my own argument. My excellent time management skills allow me to prioritize my work so that I can give some time to myself. Further, I have great personal presentation skills which inspire me to make my career into politics and provide the right image. I also have good command over MS Office skills and all the basic IT skills. Finally, my friends tell me that I am a happy and self-confidence person and I can work under pressure.
2. What do you need to work on? (E.g. things that you have difficulty doing, skills that you need to acquire or improve, personal limitations etc.)
To give a start to my political career, I need to create a good network of people, who could support me to move ahead in my career. I also need to enhance my communication skills and public speaking skills to develop my confidence. My negotiation skills also need to be improved to prepare myself for my career.
Opportunities Threats
2. What could help you along? (E.g. positive potentials, external factors that you can capitalize on etc.)
• My classmate, Adam Matan could help me to give me head start to my career by introducing to the influential politicians/agencies.
• Adam has great links to the political leaders, which would be beneficial for me.
• I could meet him and discuss my plans with him to receive his help.
• The company I am working for is giving an opportunity to travel three countries and attend conferences in Mogadishu, Addis Ababa, Nairobi, Garowe and Bosaso, which would give me a chance to meet stakeholders and other leaders.
• I’m currently doing the course Community and leadership Programme, which is a great opportunity for me to enhance my leadership skills, public speaking skills and communication skills. The course may also open for me a closed space which I did not have an access to. The information and knowledge received from this program would be beneficial for my future career.
• Joining Public speaking club is free such as Toastmasters. I think if I attend these sessions every week it may improve my public speaking skills and my networking skills.
3. What might stop you? (E.g external factors etc.)
• The great recession of 2009 and UK Brexit has had a very disastrous impact on the economy of the globe and UK. The only thing that threatens me is losing my job due to some financial crisis or economic crisis or downsizing the company I work for.
• There are many more students same as me who also plan to become a politician. They would be a threat to me if they also get elected for the positions I am looking for.
• I fear that some new powerful leaders may emerge in the future, which would put my position in danger.
Comments/observations
I have realized that my great patience and good listening skills are my USP and would support me to become a great politician. My excellent time management skills would help to prioritize my tasks and manage my time more efficiently. If I meet my classmate Adam and ask him to help me to meet some influential political leaders, I could start my political career. The Community and Leadership Programme would help me to enhance my overall personality so that I could address the public events more confidently.
Though I need to work on my networking skills to grow my career. Networking is developed by building relationship which requires great negotiation skills to understand people and then convince them with our opinion. I need to work on my negotiation skills to develop great relationship with the people.
I need to understand my competition so that I can deal with them in the future more strategically and avoid any threat.
