2018HSL 1 2018HSL Organising and Staging Major Sport Events Legacy critical analysis- Assessment #2 Due: 12 noon, 15th May, 2017 Weighting: 45% Description: This written assessment item requires students to critically analyse sport event legacy issues and implications. Students can choose one of the following three topics for this assessment item: 1. The economic legacies of major sport events are critical to their sustainability. Discuss. 2. The socio-cultural legacies of major sport events are critical to their sustainability. Discuss. 3. The environmental legacies of major sport events are critical to their sustainability. Discuss. The aim of this assessment item is to encourage students to: 1. Build an understanding of the complexity and importance of designing and delivering major sport events in a sustainable manner; 2. Recognise the impacts and implications of major sport events on a range of stakeholder groups, and the importance of incorporating stakeholders in event planning processes. 3. Think critically about the value of major sport events to their host community. Suggestions: You should include the following: • a brief introduction to your chosen topic and overview of your report structure; • an overview of key terms and concepts that you will refer to regularly in your report; • any pertinent contextual or historical information (i.e., key developments in the application and measurement of legacy initiatives, introduction of ISO20121, etc.) • an overview of key issues associated with your chosen topic, with specific examples of how the issues relate to major sport events; • identification of key stakeholders; • a discussion of relevant potential positive / negative, intended / unintended, tangible / intangible legacies and how they are significant in the planning, delivery and post-event periods; • discussion on how the issues raised impact on the sustainability of major sport events (and if relevant, you may wish to highlight how they impact on the other domains of sustainability); • recommendations on how (problematic) issues could be best handled to produce the best outcomes for stakeholders; • a conclusion that summarises the key content of the report and your key arguments. Use headings in the body of your report to guide the reader! Requirements: • Maximum word limit is 2500 words, including references. • Include a title page with your name, student number, and choice of question. You must also include a word count on the title page. 2018HSL 2 • Do not include a contents page. • Include a reference list in APA style with a minimum of 10 peer-reviewed academic journal articles (which must also be cited in-text). • Use 11 point font, 1.5 line spacing. Presentation should be professional - fancy presentation not required. • You may use graphs, diagrams or images, provided they are relevant, correctly labelled and referenced and counted in the word limit (if hand typed). Submission instructions and marking: • This assessment item must be submitted online. A submission point will be set up on Learning@Griffith in the Assessment folder. Please submit your work as a word of PDF file. • A marking rubric will be available in the Assessment folder. Grades will be available by 31st May, 2017. This assessment item will be discussed in the Week 2 Workshop, and you will have an opportunity to clarify instructions and ask questions. Assignment help will also be provided in Week 7 and Week 8 workshops.
