This assessment is an opportunity for you to gain valuable practical experience in a real-world setting. Your task is to choose a small business or place of activity in which to conduct an inspection of their compliance against the relevant OHS legislation. (Examples include a local deli, grocer or supermarket, recreation centre or gym, retail clothing store, bar, 8 HST1152 Introduction to Occupational Health and Safety, Semester 1, 2017 church or place of worship, charity clothing store. The choice is yours. If you have a part time job, you may wish to conduct your assessment there.)
Ensure that you gain appropriate permissions from the small business manager or owner before commencing. You may like to explain that you are a university student, etc. and that all findings are confidential.
You must keep the workplace’s identity anonymous by using a pseudonym and blotting out faces in photos, etc.
Your task is to identify two types of hazards. These can include (gravitational, mobile or fixed plant-related, electrical, chemical, physical (noise, heat, vibration etc.), psychological (e.g. stress, violence and aggression, etc.) and biological.
Your report should include the following:
• A description of your workplace (for the benefit of the marker), including its location, number of staff, any previous history of injuries to workers, customers, etc
. • Identification of the two types of hazards you wish to discuss, using photos if permitted. • A risk assessment of these two types of hazards.
• Recommendations to control the risk, based on recent peer-reviewed literature and primary sources (e.g. journal articles and textbooks). Marking Criteria Presentation (6 marks)

• Your assignment should be of professional industry standard (i.e. suitable for use in a workplace setting), with efforts made to make it engaging to your target audience. This can include the use of photographs, images, etc.

• Your report should include all aspects as outlined above. Referencing (4 marks)
• Your assignment must include in-text citations as well as an end-text Reference List.
