Assessment Aims/Objectives
This (learning) journal assessment provides students with an opportunity to display outcomes that they have
fulfilled whilst learning in this unit. The assessment format enables students to engage in personally reflective
learning processes to understand more deeply how the knowledge that they have learned in this unit relates in
contextually meaningful ways to them.
Assessment Description
During the semester students will select 8 (eight) stimuli that reflect themes and or concepts that have been
discoursed during the semester, the 8 stimuli will be the focus around which to write their electronic journal.
Stimuli may include but are not limited to:
* online newspaper articles;
* printed, published articles (academic, popular culture, magazine);
* filmed documentary (or partial excerpt of documentary);
* fictional representation (children’s picture book, film)
* graffiti mural art;
* song lyrics
* poetry
* excerpt of screen play/script
* verbal recording (for example radio excerpt)

Assessment Requirements
Select eight (8) stimuli that relate to unit themes and/or concepts. It is expected that each stimulus will represent
at least 1 (one) different concept.
Provide a written response of approximately 250 words for each piece of stimulus material included.

At least 4 stimuli must refer to themes and/or concepts raised in the first 4 weeks of lectures. These include, but
are not limited to:
Written responses must address the following criteria:
(i) Why you chose the stimulus to relate to the specific concept; The relevance of the concept for
you (you may also choose to discuss implications for your kin, partner, child(ren), friends);
(ii) Have any changes arisen in your understanding and knowledge of Indigenous Australians as a
result of studying this unit?
(iii) Discuss how changes to your knowledge and understanding may or may not alter your
perspective in terms of the notion of “Australian” history
Each stimulus must be directly linked to one DIFFERENT* concepts (you must discuss at least 8)
Your discussion should be supported by relevant supplementary sources; referencing according to APA
referencing Standards.
*There will be occasions where there may be more than one concept that could be related to a stimulus, whilst this is
allowable, ensure that you focus on a different concept per stimulus.
FORMAT
This is an electronic “learning” journal and must be submitted on Turnitin.
Written and visual content must adhere to formal academic convention, this includes:
* APA Referencing style for all included references and sources
* Literacy Minimum Standard Level 1 (as detailed in this guide)
Students must clearly identify all stimuli.
Ensure hyperlinks are active.
Copied images must be referenced correctly to avoid copyright breaches
Any annotated inclusions to images/stimuli will be counted as part of the formal word count.
Ensure that your journal is NO LONGER THAN 8 A4 PAGES including images.
There will be a strict word count of 2000 words only
