Description of what you know about yourself (skills) relevant to the Exercise: Skills of Effective Managers: Managers should effectively make a goal and long term vision to get a direction to follow the organizational target. Effective communication is required to provide up-to-date information to the employee. Above all, managers should motivate and inspire their employees, have team player role, aware of strengths and weakness so as to maintain a better working environment. Managerial Assumptions: Assumptions are made by manager in order to gain the organizational objectives faster. As the number of data are made available, the accuracy of the assumption is also believed to rise. McGregor’s Theory X and Y describes the theories of human motivation and management. Global Readiness Index: Due to the cultural and traditional factors employees need to adjust with the surrounding environment. In fact, I as an employee should gather information in order to understand the cultural differences, different attitudes, perceptions and point of view in different working surroundings. Time Management Profile: To reduce mental stress and eliminate the pressure of deadlines and to determine the capability of individual to adapt with different situation and circumstances time management is most. Also, the effective communication with the authority helps to save time, avoiding worthless interruption. Emotional Intelligence: It is the ability of individual to identify the emotions or feelings to accommodate with the environment with the view of achieving goals. Moreover, it’s the way to manage, perceive, reason and understand own as well as others emotions positively in order to reduce stress, conquer the challenges and cheering up the emotions of ones and others. 2. Results of self-tests: Skills of Effective Managers: In this self-test I got 25 total score. This self-test taught me the qualities required by the effective managers such as, teamwork, communication, leadership, self-management, professionalism and critical thinking. Managerial Assumptions: In this sections self-test, I achieved 3 and 6 in x and y score respectively. This means, according to McGregor theory, I am “more likely to believe that people are willing to work, capable of self-control, willing to accept responsibility, imaginative, creative, and capable of self-direction.” (Schermerhorn, Davidson, Woods, Factor, Simon & McBarron, 2017) Global Readiness Index: The score of my self-test in Global Mindset, Global Knowledge and Global Work Skills are 4, 3 and 3.33 respectively. As I scored close to 5 in each of the dimensions, “This means I am comfortable with global economy, cultural diversity, global knowledge and global work skills with global mindset to work effectively among various cultures.” (Schermerhorn, Davidson, Woods, Factor, Simon & McBarron, 2017) Time Management Profile: I achieved 8 score. This means I am believed to have time management skills. Further, I can accomplish my dedicated specific tasks, targets, projects or any other goals in a due date easily and effectively providing enough resources to describe the projects and situations. Emotional Intelligence: I racked up 79, 57, 41, 122 and 83 in Self-awareness, Managing emotions, Self-motivation, Relating well and Emotional mentoring respectively. I have comparatively high score which means I am more likely to have emotional intelligence abilities like self-awareness, motivation, self-regulation, social skill and compassion. 3. Reflection on my assessed management skills: Skills of Effective Managers: Harvard Scholar Robert l. Katz has classified the managerial skills into 3 categories: technical, human and conceptual. It means managers having these all skills, can analyze the environment easily and can increase the working performance and effectiveness. Managerial Assumptions: My assessed self-test skills was just based on McGregor’s theory X and Theory Y. It developed a scheme of possible agreement and disagreement between management styles and service strategies, depending on implicit managerial theories regarding the average employee and customer. (Hommelhoff & Sabine. (2015)) Global Readiness Index: Everything has been globalized. So, to achieve the organizational objectives the organization should exchange the global information or news to every employees so as they can do the work effectively with up-to-date information. Time Management Profile: With the ability to manage time and perform works, any managerial activities can be done productively. So, we should not give priority to the irrelevant matters and should focus mainly on highly prioritized activities. . Emotional Intelligence: Individuals who understand emotion and manage it, can establish positive relations with the society. Also, people having EI are flexible and are able to adapt to new environment. They are cheerful, successful and self-confident in performing things. 4. Theorisation of my assessed management skills (why are they relevant?) We will discuss this in class: Skills of Effective Managers: “The managers have varying degrees of work productivity, personal self-concepts, organizational leadership skills and types of decision-making.” (Korobeynikova & Zakharova, 2015). These aspects are required to face with the real world challenges. Managerial Assumptions: Managers have to handle various situations depending on their style of managerial assumptions. Particular implicit assumptions about human motivation are not only linked with specific managerial styles, but also with specific customer service strategies. Global Readiness Index: “Our goal is to be one of the world's great service companies, helping our customers, communities, and people to prosper and grow, and it's ironic, but it may actually be in the area of service”-Westpac CEO Brian Hartzer” (Afrcom. (2017). To compete globally our goal should have global target and this is what, skills of self-test taught me. Time Management Profile: Time management helps to accomplish the tasks effectively making time to evaluate, rethink and focusing employees to make them work important things at first. Time management isn’t a matter of careful planning; it’s a source of developing two qualities, self-esteem and self-discipline. Emotional Intelligence: It is a set of abilities concerned with individual differences in the ability to connect thoughts to emotions and it helps to understand the feeling of others. On the contrary, emotional intelligence can be used as a source to predict the success of individuals. 5. Conclusion: Skills of Effective Managers: Effective managers should have abilities like, communication skills, strong-willed qualities and self-setting goals. Further, “they should have high level of confidence, self-acceptance, competitiveness and organizational skills.” (Gabdreeva & Khalfieva, 2015) Managerial Assumptions: Most of the managers will develop a personalized managerial style soon after being placed in a position of greater responsibility. So effective managers should be interested in only limited schemes of delegation, within clearly defined limits and with an easy way to reward and punishment. Global Readiness Index: Every country has their own political, government, economic and cultural systems. In this regard, a proper management should have a detail overview in these all sectors and should have updated information. Moreover, we should be finding the solutions globally if the usual means are not available. Time Management Profile: The main reasons behind the time management problems can be, “The way we are wired to manage time could be to blame or it could just be individual’s personality” (Afrcom. (2017). Financial Review). Whatever be the reason, these be the hindrance to the development. Emotional Intelligence: It’s a set of skills brainstormed to contribute to the expression of emotion in oneself and in others and the use of feelings to motivate, plan and achieve success in one's life. It’s a type of social intelligence that involves the ability to monitor emotions, and to use the information to guide one's thinking and actions (Salovey & Mayer, 1990). 6.
