Follow this step by step guide
Step 1 - Download the following documents from BlackBoard TP101 Assessment Task 3b – Essay Paragraph: TPP101 Assessment TASK 3b.pdf TPP101 Argumentative Essay Planning Guide(1).docx [optional – but very helpful a as linear planning guide]
Step 2 - Read TPP101 Assessment TASK 3b.pdf very carefully – there is a lot of information to understand but every single piece is necessary for successful completion of this task.
Step 3 - Plan: Look at the workload required to complete this task. The research component itself is substantial. Keep in mind that you will probably have other TPP task assessments due in weeks 8 and 9, so do not leave everything until the last minute.
Step 4 - Prepare: An academic essay is quite different in many respects from the summary/evaluation you did in Task 2. If you have not written an academic essay before, it is strongly recommended that you work your way through Chapter 9 of the TPP101 Workbook as this will introduce the skills that are required to approach writing at this level.
Step 5 - Review: If you have missed any lectures in weeks 5, 6, 7 or 8, or wish to review details, you can do this in two ways: 1. Mediasite recording: Each lecture is recorded and you can review this by going to: BlackBoard TP101 Learning Activities Lecture Recordings 2. Lecture PowerPoint slides: You can view these by going to: BlackBoard TP101 Learning Materials 3. You may also find the TPP101 Workbook useful to review the following skills you will need for this task assessment. Chapter 5 – Writing Conventions Chapter 6 – Searching Library Databases [how to find books and journal articles] Chapter 7 – [Harvard] Referencing Chapter 8 – Synthesising and Summarising Information
Step 6 - Go to the Tutorials: The tutors will help you to break this task down and understand exactly what is required.

Step 7 - The writing process – step by step: The TPP101 Workbook Chapter 9 provides you with a detailed description of what you have to do. In diagram form, it is this: The Essay Writing Process
Step 8 - Check the marking rubric: Remember that the rubric [found in the Task assessment sheet] is a guide to the quality of your content. Critically assess what you have written against the criteria of the rubric – or ask another student to help you do this. This will help identify any weaknesses in your writing.
Step 9 - Final proof and edit: Once you have finished, carefully check your work against the check off list in the Task Assessment sheet to ensure that you have followed all requirements of this task. If you have specific concerns about your writing [eg: tone is not sufficiently academic or you are significantly over word count and don’t know how to write more concisely] see an Academic Skills Adviser.
Step 10 - Tutorial Week 8 – Peer Review: Feedback comes in many different forms, and learning to participate in peer feedback is an important step in becoming a successful tertiary-level student. Bring a printed copy of your plan and essay [double line spaced for ease of editing], highlight pens and/or marking pens to the tutorial in week 8.
Step 11 - Submit: Submit your TPP101 Task 3b Assessment according to the instructions in the PowerPoint found on BlackBoard TP101 Assessment Task 3b – Argumentative Essay: This PowerPoint will take you through step by step, how to upload your TASK 3 assignment: How to upload TPP101, TASK 3b.pptx
Step 1 – Analyse the essay question. Know exactly what you have to write about.
Step 2 – Brainstorm what you know about this topic and also what you may need to find out.
