LEADERSHIP Diary Part B What was the context? (48 words) The issue took place on a day when I received a phone call from a friend who got rejected in his dream job and this was a disheartening moment. He had tried hard to achieve the job position but failed to clear his last round of interview. What was your external behaviour at the time? (52 words) While I got the phone call, I was shocked by the situation that occurred so, I wanted to be with him at that time. My eyebrows were raised and I was thinking that he had tried his best to get his dream job, yet he could not clear the last round of interview. What was the internal behaviour at the time? (54 words) I felt pity because even I had a confidence in him, as I was expecting that he would pass the interview on the first go. I was completely aware that the interview has to be difficult, but the interview could have been cleared with communication skills and smart work. What was behaviour afterwards? (50 words) The situation can be handled if I could meet him and motivate him, saying that he could try again for an interview. There are ups and downs in life so a person needs to try accordingly to grab the opportunities. Even my other friends explained him to not lose hope. What are your reflections now, looking back at the situation? Your action tendencies and intentions (47 words) My initial intention was to manage the situation. While the situation was critical, I tried to call him up and wanted to reach at his home, as such I had several alternatives which would win the situation by not overreacting to the situation and taking simple steps to handle the situation. Your default routines (77 words) At first, I was shocked by the news that my friend did not pass the interview. I realised it later that at that point in time, I should have to take things in a positive manner while thinking that there are other interviews that can assist my friend to get his dream job. Finally, I made up my mind while thinking to visit his home and explain him about what can be done while stabilising the current situation. Your impact and challenges (55 words) The situation was stressful and I noticed that my friends even did not turn up at this time. Accordingly, things could be okay soon because there are other interviews that may help him to get a job (Black, Groombridge and Jones, 2011). The most challenging thing was to make my friend understand and motivate him while trying other job interviews. What was your reflection on your reflection? (140 words) At the particular situation, I did not realise that I would panic and this would impact negatively on my thought system. The interview was a big deal, although things could have been handled well if I had taken it in another way. Whereas, the reactions failed me to properly concentrate on how should I now handle the situation,n taking into consideration the action plan that has to be followed. I have always tried to be a leader and take things positively while initiating it to work according to the situation. I just had to practice the awareness about handling things patiently. The feeling of getting hyper and panic may lead to an incident which may go wrong, so a good way is to accept the circumstances and react positively while making others realise the same thing (Bennis, 2009). How did the use of diagnostics, feedback and ideas from literature help your understanding? (200 words) On 4th April during a class, I had gained an insight that with the default routines with a friend I concluded various aspects. These aspects and the questions that he asked me led to a result that I have the ability to undergo the situation and lead according to the situation but the lack of confidence was missing. I went through a personal activity that had questions which showed the results that lack competence and confidence. The poor results showed that I would have reacted positively and would have controlled at the situation taking it into a more lighter manner (Black and Copsey, 2014). Poor self-confidence and state of withdrawal, worsen the situation. The poor results from the personal activity resulted in a situation where I should focus towards confidence and improve my results. The learning activity had helped to reduce the stress level and improve my confidence with intelligence and knowledge (Levay, 2010). While addressing my insecurities, the level of anxiety has maintained and I succeeded in achieving better results. With the leadership approach that would control even the negative emotional state, I should have made efforts to reach to a position where insecurities and negativities can be reduced (Kouzes and Posner, 2007). What did you plan to do differently in similar situations in the future? (100 words) When I get a similar situation in the near future, I would try to create a harmonious situation that would not disturb my emotional state of mind and I could control the situation in a practical and flexible manner. This would help to control over my mind and body so that I would take the situation on a lighter mode and act as a leader. Situations are to be practically handled so that they do not disturb the work and life, this is to be focused. Engaging in self-development activities and other programs, the result displayed a high level of confidence and power to deal with the situation (Hamel, 2009). Reflections on your mini-experiment (150 words) While considering the situation that was negative, I went through a personal development program and activity based learning that tried to change the situation. The leadership approach helped me to respond to the situation the way it is and I improved while taking things into a practical manner than to react it in a negative way (Bryman, 2007). With the development program, confidence and intelligence were the core elements that were focused deeply and this was effective in learning programs. I still have to learn a lot of things that will improve the ability and skills that a leader has. Motivation would assist in understanding different perspectives and analyse the behaviour of people (Levay, 2010). These learning aspects would make an effort to motivate self and others while dealing with a negative situation. Trying to respond towards building a rapport and helping people, this would clear the issues and problems that hinder in life (Davies et al. 2001). What is your learning? (46 words) Learning derived from the situation helped me to gain a major focus towards taking things in a practical manner and not reacting to the situation. The best way is to take effective steps and control the emotions while helping others to achieve their goals (Pye, 2005). References Bennis, W. (2009). On Becoming a Leader (Revised Edition).
