PURPOSE
The purpose of this assignment is to provide hands-on experience to Foundations of Accounting students on financial analysis using real-life data. It gives students the opportunity to demonstrate, through an extended exercise, their ability to apply their accounting knowledge and analytical skills to a real-world setting. It also provides an opportunity to develop students’ interpersonal skills in a work environment.
GROUPS
1. Students are required to work as a group. Each group must have 4-5 students. 2. Each group will be required to submit one report (through OLS) and prepare one in-class presentation. 3. It is the responsibility of students to organize themselves into groups and ensure that contact details of each student in the group have been given to all group members.
ASSIGNMENT TASK
Download the 2014, 2015 and 2016 annual reports (Income statement and Balance Sheet) of ONE listed company of your choice. Using the information provided, perform ratio analysis to address the following:
1. Give a brief overview of the company you have chosen (Name, industry, etc.). 2. Explain whether the performance of the company has improved over the period (from 2014 to 2016) using any two profitability ratios. 3. Explain whether the ability of the company to manage its assets has improved over period (from 2014 to 2016) using any two asset efficiency ratios. 4. Comment on whether bank(s) will be willing to lend money to the company using any two liquidity ratios.

The allowed similarly report is 25%. • Assignment must be submitted to OLS • A late submission will attract a penalty at the rate of 1% per working day • Each assignment should comprise one copy of the group’s written report, including Group Assignment Cover Sheet. • All members of the group must fill and attached “Team Contribution Declaration” at the end of this document. • Each group member will receive their marks according to the agreed percentage of their contribution (as determined by the team).

Guideline for evaluation of students’ in-class presentations (5 marks) • The presentation shall not include more than 5 slides (e.g. Introduction, key findings, recommendations and summary) and each team will have up to 7 minutes to present. • The presentation will be assessed based on: o Slides content and design o Presenters’ ability to engage the audience o Extend to which the presentation is consistent with the written report o Ability to demonstrate a team spirit and a culture of discussion
