Introduction
Unit Introduction
The aim of this unit is to enable the learner to understand the processes involved in the
recruitment, management and development of people in the health and social care
workplace. In this assignment, learners will investigate the processes involved in the
management of individuals in the health and social care workplace. This not only
includes the recruitment of the most appropriate personnel but importantly the support of
employees in carrying out their work effectively in teams and developing their knowledge
and skills so that they can contribute to the delivery of a quality service. Learners will
contextualise these elements within the relevant legal and policy frameworks. In addition,
learners will explore the influence of management style and organisational factors on the
effectiveness of teams.
This unit is particularly appropriate for learners who have experience of leadership and
management of work groups, including involvement in the recruitment of staff.

Specification of Assessment
Task One: 1.1, 1.3.
Recruitment and Selection
Scenario:
You are a Human resource officer working in a residential care home and you have been
given the task to set up a recruitment panel to recruit a new staff member.
ROLE PLAY TO SET UP AN INTERVIEWING PANEL X FOUR STUDENTS 2 ON THE INTERVIEWING
PANEL AND TWO INVITED FOR INTERVIEW.
1) SEND OUT AN INVITATION LETTER TO THE APPLICANT
2) PREPARE THE INTERVIEWING QUESTIONS 2 QUESTIONS EACH member of the panel
3) WELCOME INTRODUCTION AND HOUSEKEEPING
4) MARK THE APPLICANT ON A SCORE SHEET
5) COMPLETE THE INTERVIEW WITH INFORMATION ON WHEN AND HOW THEY WOULD
RECEIVE the information IF THEY WERE SUCCESSFUL OR NOT.
6) SEND OUT LETTER TO THE APPLICANT IF THEY WERE SUCCESSFUL OR NOT.
The students have to come together in groups of four which split into two’s which we will for the
purposes of the role play call sets.
SET ONE: will act as human resource officers and send a Job Description and Person
Specification to each of the students in set two.
SET TWO: will then send in a CV and Covering letter to the panel for an interview.
SET ONE: Send out aninvitation to attend an interview.
You need to set up interview questions and a mark sheet. Each panel member must
put together 2 questions and set up a marking sheet. You will interview both of the students in
set two.
SET TWO: You will each attend the interview separately
SET ONE: Send out letters to each of the applicants on if they have been successful or not,
when set one has completed, change places and set two becomes the interviewing panel and set
one the applicants.

Write up your notes from the Probationary Meeting with a
Training Development Plan
You have now engaged the applicant from the interviews which took place some months
ago. Within your confirmation letter of employment with Churchill Residential Home Care
it was explained that the new applicant would be on a 6 month probationary period, and
when the probation period was coming to an end you would invite the new member of
staff to attend a training and development meeting to discuss their work performance and
their training needs.
1) Your essay should contain how you monitored the progress and workperformance of
the new applicant.
2) Look at ways that you can offer various training to meet the needs of not onlythe
applicant but also for the residential home, this should also be in line withCurrent policy

Write a Formal Essay
You have successfully conducted an interview and taken on a very capable member of
staff. The new staff member has now completed the 6 months probationary period with a
good report on their performance. So you now need to look at your own performance and
reflect on the style of leadership that you applied to ensure that you used the right
approach to developing a smooth delivery of the recruitment procedure.
What was the leadership theory that you used to ensure that you were able to deliver the
right influence and effectiveness to ensure that you recruited the right person?
To ensure that you were able to monitor the new applicant how did you develop and
manage the working relationship with your members of staff. Developing a good
management style and developing good leadership qualities are good approaches that
every manager should be able to deliver so please explain your leadership and
management styles. And from your own working experiences, good or bad, give an
explanation of ones that you have encountered.

The interviews can take place on the week beginning the 08thMay. October which
is the assessment for the Role plays.
Both of the assignment essays can be submitted together at the end of the term
submission deadline. The final submission deadline for task 2 & 3 is 30thJune 2017
Assignment submission instructions
1. Go to the following website: http://www.turnitinuk.com/
2. Click on “Create Account”
3. At the bottom of the page, you will find a list: Students, Instructor, Teaching assistant.
Click on “Student”
4. On the new page you will have to provide this information:
• Class ID
• Class enrolment password
• Your first name
• Your last name
• Email address
• Your password (it must be 6-12 characters long and contain at least one letter and
one number)

5. Click on “I agree –Create Profile”
6. Done.

Achievement of a pass grade
A pass grade is achieved by meeting all the requirements defined in the assessment criteria for

Plagiarismand Collusion
Any act of plagiarism or collusion will be dealt with seriously. The definition and scope of
plagiarism are presented below:
“Using the work of others without acknowledging thesource of information or inspiration. Even if
the words are changed or sentences are put in different order, the result is still plagiarism”
(Cortell 2003).
Collusion is the joint production with another person or persons of an assessment that contributes
to a unit grade where this is not permissible in the assessment task. In cases of collusion, the
work of all students involved will be considered.
Mitigating Circumstances
Mitigating circumstances can be defined as circumstances that are unexpected, significantly
disruptive and beyond the control of the student, which could not be reasonably predicted or
accommodated by the student and which affects student’s ability to meet assessment deadlines
or impairs the performance of the student in assessment.
If you wish to apply for mitigating circumstances, you can obtain the form from E-Learning, your
personal tutor or reception. The completed form must be accompanied by evidence such as a
medical certificate in the event of you being sick.
