Due Dates & Assessment Weighting Summary
Assessment Item Due Date Weighting
Annotated Bibliography Thursday - Week 4 10%
Group Report Thursday - Week 9 25%
Group Presentation During timetabled tutorial/laboratory in Week 11 15%
See the Course Description for further details.
Group Formation
Students will be placed into groups of size 4-5 during their normal tutorial session. Groups will be provided with the opportunity to work on their assignments within the normal tutorial and laboratory time. It is expected that students will also have to work outside of class in order to complete the tasks. Each student is expected to write an annotated biography on three resources related to their section of their team’s topic. The three resources used for the annotated bibliographies should be one book, one journal or conference paper and one website.
Topics
All of the three assessment items listed above will use only one topic. This will be allocated from the following:
1. Internet of Things
2. Quantum Computing
3. AI & Robotics
4. Human Computer Interaction
5. Computer Security
.
Annotated bibliography
Tasks
1) The group is required to develop an initial mind map on the topic that they have chosen. The mind map will be basis for the annotated bibliography evaluating the resources investigated and will be further developed in the Group Report task.
2) Each member of the group should be allocated one part of the mind map for their individual work.
3) Each member of the group is required to work by themselves to create an annotated bibliography using the templates provided in this document.
4) Three different types of resources are to be used; these being a journal article, a book, and a website (excluding Wikipedia). You are only required to complete one of each type for the assignment, however you may elect to complete more to assist you with your group report.
5) Your annotated bibliography should include a summary of the resource, an evaluation and the reason(s) why the resource has been selected for use. Writing should be completed using correct spelling and grammatically correct paragraphs. Bullet points/lists should be used sparingly. Overuse of bullet points and/or lists will result in marks being deducted. As a guide, each annotated bibliography should be approximately one (1) page in length.
6) Your annotated bibliography should be completed using the templates provided at the end of this document.
Submission Requirements:
Each student is required to submit a single pdf document that includes:
• the individual annotated bibliography; and
• a copy of the mindmap highlighting the area that the bibliography covers.

Summary of site
This article highlighted the role of robotics and artificial intelligence in the present context and the role of government in its application. With the increase application of robotics, several applications like automatic cars, use of robots in the restaurants to serve people has been evident. This application on the other hand has created debate in the forum of ethical consideration and legal profession.
Evaluation
It has been found that robotics and artificial intelligence have been gaining importance in the recent time. In fact, the job of people is getting replced by these machines and robots. This has automatically drawn legal attention of the government related to regulating the employment and safety of the people and their jobs. In fact, in the engineering field, this artificial intelligence is gaining competitive advantage because these robots do not need any safety precaution. Thus, employment and safety has becoming outdated. The online retailers have been using these machines for their purpose. All these instances have resulted in the reduction of jobs and emergence of certain legal issues. Therefore, the revolution in technology needs to be questioned.
Reasons for use
This source has been extracted from the authentic website of Guardian. The article talked about the contemporary situation of the application of robotics and its impact on the society. Some of the vital and innovative approaches like the driverless cars or intelligent computer system have been discussed in the article that was very informative.
Journals

Journal Title: AI Communications
Year of publication: 2015 Page Numbers: 63-80
Volume no: 27 Issue no: 1
Summary of article
The article talks about the use of robotics and artificial intelligence in multi disciplines ranging from mechanical to electrical engineering and even for bio-engineering or cognitive sciences. As pointed out by the author, that robotics has always been a fertile paradigm in the AI research. The article discussed about the various problems related to the use of robotics in these major fields. An empirical approach has been undertaken for the purpose of the evaluation. The journal has been divided into a number of sections where the different applications of robotics and artificial intelligence have been stated. No primary research has been conducted.
Evaluation
It has been found that robotics have some deliberation where the actions are planned according to its application. The devices are not limited to a particular task and is often multi tasking. Planning and monitoring are important phases of robotics. Motion and manipulation planning act as the key capabilities in the formation of robots. The determinant commands are based on geometric configuration. In fact, repairing and handling of robots also requires planning the process accordingly. However, in the recent time, automated, logical and the CSP approaches are also used to handle the durative actions of robotics. The value of these approaches has been increasing from time to time and robotics and artificial intelligence is gaining importance.
Reasons for use
This particular journal has been selected because this journal provides vital information related to the development of robotics and its application in the present context. The article had been helpful in understanding the present context of the application of robotics and how impactful it would be in future.

The author highlighted the philosophical questions of using innovative machines like robots. The ethical approach of using the innovative machines is the major concern of this particular book.
Evaluation
Artificial intelligence system has resulted in the major advancement of the society. The application of computers and robots in almost every spheres and activities has been possible due to the influence of the artificial intelligence. However, in the recent time, it has been observed that the scientists have been considering the use of these machines as a part of their ethical consideration. It has to be understood that there should be certain philosophical approach towards anything that directly or indirectly affects the society. The increasing application of robotics has helped to make our life easier but at the same time, it has created questions on the moral and ethical approach as well. For instance, due to the increasing use of robots many people are losing their job.
Reasons for use
This book talks about the use of innovative machines in the regular activities. This particular book has been selected because it shows the other side of the use of artificial intelligence.
