COM100 Assessment 3 – Case Study
Communications Report
Due Date: Outline – Week 6
Report – Week 8
Value: Outline – 5%
Report – 25%
The 1,500 word written report will be based on a hypothetical case study of a business.
Students should use their current place of employment or own business as the case-study
business scenario for this report.
(If a student is not currently employed and/or is unable to obtain access to a business model,
information about a hypothetical business and the context in which it operates will be
supplied to the student for case-study purposes. Please email your lecturer directly for this
information ASAP).
The Case Study Communications report will be based on how you show connection between
specific theory in the COM100 course/literature (secondary research) and your
employment/business information (primary research).
Report Outline / Chronological Study Plan
Part One: Secondary Research (Lecture notes, textbook, own
academic research in journals/books)
Relevant topics and content covered in lectures and chapters of the prescribed
textbook from
Chapter One Communication theory and professional practice
Chapter Two Language and communication practice
Chapter Three Non-verbal communication: meanings without words
Chapter Four Intercultural communication
Chapter Five Mediated communication
It is suggested the students pick up to ten (10) theories/concepts covered over the
five week period (example concept: Week 3 – Non Verbal Communication – Facial
expression p65)
Students should then do further research in reliable databases for academic journals
on the selected theory/concept. You will use this as evidence (as quotations and
paraphrases) to support your argument position/hypothesis in the report.COM100 Assessment 3 Specification Last updated on 9-Feb-17
