Overview Origin energy was founded in February 2000 located in Australia with a history stretching back 150 years. The new companyhad changed its business to energy business instead of the former building and construction materials business. Origin energy is a big energy company with $16 billion Australia market capitalization, nearly 160,000 shareholders and 4.3Mnatural gas and LPG customer accounts which is more than any other energy company in the same area. Being one of Australia’s key gas producers and holders,origin energy is also a joint venture partner with Australia Pacific LNG, building one of Australia’s multi-billion dollar liquefied natural gas projects. The electricity generation capacity of origin energy is more than 6,000 MW. The company holds 53.1% in Contact Energy, which is “one of New Zealand’s largest energy generators and retailers, operating geothermal, hydro and gas power plants”(originenergy, 2017).Additionally, origin energy stands in the TOP 20 of the Australian Securities Exchange. Sustainability Sustainability is defined as to manage and develop the balance among the economic component, social aspects and the environmental characteristics within one organization(Ehrlich&Holden, 1974). Recently, the importance of sustainability has been paid more and more attention by the public( Lynn et al, 2014). Especially for energy company sector, the more energy demand causes by the increasing population, and the more energy is taken to have an impact on the environment. According to Origin energy itself, “the changing demands for energy (including growing energy exports), technological innovations, climate change and the need for greater energy efficiency will re-shape the entire energy supply chain.” The company promises to provide a reliable, affordable and sustainable supply of energy to communities by publishing their sustainability report about their approaches and how they made decisions when providing their business. Social ˃ Safety of our people In origin energy, all employees and contractors are empowered to stop any activity they find unsafe. All Origin workplaces is governed by legislation and regulations applicable to make sure safety. Meanwhile, origin energy has set its Health, Safety and Environment (HSE)Policy, as well as foster a culture of safety awareness. ˃ Process safety Origin implement and monitor process safety controls at all of their assets to reduce the accident risk. ˃ People Employees in origin are encouraged to build personal development and have been offered equal opportunities in the workplace. Origin knows the importance of fostering diversity. So they deliver equal salary for men and women at each job grade and reduce the gap between male and female turnover. ˃ Customer care Origin accelerating customer-first agenda, progressively launching innovations in product and digital services to improve the customer experience. And invested to the program “power on” to supporting their most vulnerable customers. Environmental ˃ Climate change and emissions The company signed up to 7 of the We Mean Business Coalition commitments on climate change. As well as maintain its gas and minimal coal use to minimize its carbon oxen gin emission. ˃ Water management Origin energy uses water in power generation and sharing water resources with other users. They monitor their water use by not only just with the conditions imposed by law, but also add additional commitments such as maximizing the availability of water for beneficial uses from our CSG activities ˃ Waste management They manage the waste safely within their operating limits and monitored the environment around their operations to ensure that the waste management practices have been adopted appropriately. At the same time, made efforts to develop new technologies to maximize recycling. Economic ˃ Policy Origin has payed attention on policies related to climate change, access to resources and fiscal arrangements in the near few years. It is worth mentioning that origin launched Australia’s first fixed-price energy plan, designed to help customers manage household budgets. ˃ Sustainability in our supply chain For every distribution which origin provided their service, they trying to ensure their operate can sustain the distribution as well as origin’s operations.
