BCO1102 Information Systems for Business Case Study Client Scenario Rhonda's Scrapping Emporium Rhonda's Scrapping Emporium is a small family business started by Rhonda about 10 years ago. The company has three stores located in Melbourne, Australia. One in the Eastern suburb of Balwyn, one located in the West, in Altona, and a centrally located one in the Melbourne CBD. The stores sell all material associated with scrap booking. This includes Scrap Book Albums and accessories, stencils, stickers, paper, cardstock, pens, computer software etc... The store also supplies scrap booking magazines and a monthly newsletter produced by Rhonda which is available free to all customers in the stores. Rhonda's business has gradualy evolved over time, and while Rhonda's shops are located in high profile suburbs, she only has a small group of loyal customers and does not get much passing trade. While the numbers of people who like to undertake scrapping as a hobby seem to be increasing, they tend to be dispersed and not concentrated in particular areas, so that it is difficult to capitalize by establishing another shop. Rhonda does sell a lot of merchandise at special events such as the Melbourne Hobby show, and similar regional events. Her advertising is limited to these events and the local newspaper. Rhonda has been wondering if she could upgrade her computer systems to increase her reach to new customers somehow. Scrapping has become a popular hobby and until recently, the three outlets were doing well, but lately there has been a trend for customers to purchase scrapping materials from similar online businesses, as the prices can be much cheaper. These web-based businesses are cheap to set up and run. Rhonda's Scrapping Emporium cannot compete with the prices offered online, as the online operators do not have to pay rental on the stores, thus greatly reducing the mark-up of the goods. Rhonda is a competent, computer literate person, and realizes that the next stage of her business lies in an eCommerce business environment, but really does not know which direction to take, in respect to moving her Business to an eBusiness. Rhonda has approached your consulting company for advice on how eCommerce may boost sales and the direction she should take. You have been asked by your supervisor to prepare a report explaining eCommerce in general, highlighting the issues and benefits, and developing a broad strategy That Rhonda should undertake, given that she also has several physical shops. Your advice needs to be well researched and not based on your own personal views or experiences. 1
