Task Description:
Select two (2) aspects of organisational behaviour from the range of concepts and theories considered in weeks 7-11 of the course (Refer to attached PPT. eg, organizational culture, structure, change and development; leadership; conflict, etc).
Use these selected concepts to critically analyse and evaluate the capacity of an organization in which you are, or have have recently been, an active member to improve the performance and quality of working life for its participants.
Through this evaluation, argue (explain, illustrate and justify) a case for the inter-relatedness of the concepts selected, that is, as exemplified by your organization, how do these concepts inter-relate in a dynamic or causal way, and thereby shape the nature of your organization?
• Note: - Choose an organisation that you are, or have have recently been, currently a member of and are active within. Use your experiences and
understandings of the organisation to illustrate the behaviours you are describing and the points you are making.
• Note: - It is important to do more than describe the organization and the concepts you have selected. Rather, you are expected to argue a case
for the inter-relatedness of the selected concepts as illustrated by your organization and its capacity for improvement.
In this assignment you are required to critically examine an organisation to which you belong on the basis of the interrelationship between different aspects of organisational behaviour theory. You will choose which theoretical aspects to examine (from those examined in Modules 4-6, refer to attached PDF) and make a case for how they are enacted or operationalised in your chosen organisation. The focus here is on understanding the interrelatedness of organisational practices, evaluating organisational performance and considering how this is influenced by the ways in which the organisation brings together different aspects of its activity. So how can organisational practice be understood in relational ways that support better performance evaluation?
Require you to argue a case that justifies the conclusions you have come to following your critical analysis of the group and organisational practices examined. This means that your essays are persuasive texts – they are not simple descriptions of what you have observed and come to understand about the behavioural concepts and theories outlined in the text book and your further reading. Rather, the essays present your clearly explained and theoretically supported views about how best to understand and overcome problems created by the kinds of active inter-relationships experienced in your professional and organisational context.
