1. Project Context
1.1 Identification and exploration of future profession
In accordance with the objectives of this assignment, the selected profession for this assignment is Project Manager. Project Managers are those responsible heads those manages the development of any project. In addition to this, the project manager is responsible for managing project planning, execution, development and other functional stages involved within any project management concept (Burke, 2013). Apart from these perspectives, the project manager generally identifies the objectives and aims invalid within the project with respect to various risks and issues raised within the project development phases. According to the critical analysis of the profession of the project manager it is found that both the change management and structural knowledge is necessary for being successful with the project. Henceforth, the role of the project manager is to ensure the actual effect as well as organizational change management within the project.
The profession of project manager is considered to be as one important profession in future and it is entirely based on the fact that everything will be collectively evolving with time span. Additionally, the development ofcomputing power and further development of computing technologies have great impact on the profession of project manager (Heagney, 2016). Technological developmentconsiders the conceptual and functional involvement of project manager as one professional. Henceforth, these will be completely helpful in designing and scheduling project plan and project development perspectives while taking initiatives for project development perspectives. The quality and objectives of the project is sharpened by this technological knowledge of the project manager with respect to the professional context.
The project manager is one person invalid within the project who is responsible for managing the objectives of the project with respect to the constraints of project. Outcomes of project are entirely dependent on the strategic move of the project manager with respect to various functional discrepancies and strengths of the project (Hwang & Ng, 2013). The person provides his assistance to the project team members for controlling, monitoring and planning the project development with respect to its constraints. Now if the consideration comes to resource, orientation, then it is clear that the project is entirely bound to manage the project development with the help of managing different resources invalid within the project. There are mainly three project constraints that are considered as the functional element for managing the project development (Kerzner, 2013). It is also identified that the project manager defines every activity involved within the project with respect to these three constraints of project management, these are time, scope and cost. These three are controlled with respect to the aims and objectives of the project and also these help the project manager in completing the project successfully with respect to various functional measures for project.
According to critical analysis it is found that the responsibilities of a project manager vary from one organization to another one. The project bound to their responsibilities for completing the concerned project within limited time span. Among all of these functions of project manager, the four main elements of their functions include organizing, planning, leading and controlling the project development. All of these individual stages and functional aspects makes the project manager concerned and focused on the project objectives. Planning, organizing and controlling of project are attached with the scope management perspectives involved within the project development life cycle (Lock, 2014). Henceforth, it is ensured that the project manager deals with each of these stages within project management with respect to their knowledge skills they have gained in their entire career.
1.2 Review of the understanding for becoming a professional
Professionalism is one most important characteristic for the project managers. For becoming professional the project manager needs to grab some knowledge about certain traits that generally includes competency, integrity, reliability, honesty and positivity etc.
According to several reviews of authors, this is identified that the successful project development is nothing but the utilization of knowledge and skills of project manager with respect to different conditional perspectives and situations involved within the project development phases (Mir & Pinnington, 2014).
2. Project Proposal
Title:Project management practices in managing risk in an organization or project
2.1 Background
Project Manager is same as other general professions and this profession also faces various issues and challenges involved within the project. Some of the considered challenges that project manager faces are poor scope management, unclear objective setting, poor communication measures and incorrect scheduling techniques etc (Pemsel & Wiewiora, 2013). The contingency planning sometimes make them put into trouble. These challenges faced by project managers acts like barriers in project development context and these also affect in resource, cost and time context of the project development plan.
2.2 Aims and Objectives
The core aims and objectives of the project proposal are to determines the issues incorporated within the profession of management as one project manager. The project manager faces numerous challenges involved within the project development phases. These problems needs to be minimized and the objectives for this are elaborated as follows:
• To recognize the issue the project manager faces during several activities of project
• To identify the reasons behind challenges in order to mitigate them
• To identify the mismanagement of resources involved within the project development.
2.3 Literature Review
It is analyzed that the project management profession faces various challenges during the management of project tasks involved within the development process. These challenges put great impact on the project success as well as on the project development perspective (Sears et al., 2015). Therefore, these challenges needs to be managed and mitigated with respect to project objectives and aims involved within the project.
Problems due to improper management of risks
There are numerous challenges faced by project manager during the completion of project as there are various functional aspects involved within the project development with respect to various facts and responses of stakeholders. The project manager needs to be capable of managing these risks and traits in order to complete the project successfully. Most of the recent projects are failed or faces various issues as its project managers are not capable of managing the project within time (Too & Weaver, 2014). Apart from this issue, the project managers are also not concerned about the contingency planning now a day, result of which leads to the disruption in project development perspectives. Ambiguous contingency plans are not capable of identifying the responses from different activities involved within the project.
Challenges for utilization of wrong tool for project development
There are different organizations that use wrong tools for managing their project development which results into the disruption in project success. Some of the needed tools for managing project development are MS project, MS excel, etc. These software tools are not used properly for managing collaboration among different parties of organizations (Turner, 2014). These aspects results into failure of project. Another typical problem that project development as well as project manager’s faces is version control of software tools.
Problems due to wasting of time
Misuse of time schedule during project development is another issue that are faced by project managers as one professional head within the project. There different tasks or activities that need to be completed within time which results into project success but the stakeholders are not effective enough to complete these activities. Proper arrangement of time during project results into project success.
Problems due to mismanagement of resources
There are different resources involved within project development. These are financial, technical, and other is project related resources. The effective usage of project resources results into project success (Turner, 2016). Though now days the project managers are not capable of managing their resources effectively due to different stakeholder conflicts.
2.4 Data Analysis
Data collection process
The concerned project objectives highlight that there are need for both qualitative and quantitative data involved within the research process of this project. The qualitative data highlights the contemporary issues faced by different project managers during project development (Verzuh, 2015). In addition to this, the quantitative data will be helpful in analyzing the individual perspectives of project stakeholders. Therefore, the mixed approach is considered in this research process.
Data analysis method
Data collected from different resources are analyzed with respect to two different techniques: qualitative and quantitative methods. These two techniques finds the actual facts about project development challenges and their impact on project success.
