Assignment Overview
The assignment is to develop a case study that analyses and applies relevant
Organizational Behaviour (OB) theory and concepts to a ‘mythical business’.
Our Mythical Business:
Mythical Business: ‘LodgeMyTrip’
LodgeMyTrip (LMT) is an online open market and a hospitality service, assisting
people to lease or rent time being accommodations including vacation rentals,
apartment rentals, homestays, or hotel rooms. The company does not possess
any lodging; it is simply a trader and takes fraction service fees from both
guests and hosts with every reservation taking place. It has over 25,000 lodging
listings across Australia and New Zealand as an online showcase (i.e. website
and an app) for the visitors within the country as well as from outside the
country. The company has a finite central staff of 30 people for business
activities like inspection, customer services, online marketing, IT team etc. and
the rest, the hosts are so called gig-workers for the company.
LMT is a form of collaborative consumption i.e. gig economy. Instead of
acquiring and maintaining Hotels and Resort businesses, it is easier to handle
the hosts who want to rent their apartment, or a room, or even a house/villa
for certain period of time throughout the year. Here hosts are bound to lease
their spaces at least 4 weeks a year as per their flexibility and availability. On
the other hand, the visitors find number of options available on their fingertip
provided ease of booking, payment and cancellations.
Instructions:
The report should apply four Organizational Behaviour Theories in context of
the Mythical Business. Overall analysis of these theories should be integrative
and cohesive. Four Organizational Behaviour concepts are:
Employee Motivation and Engagement: Use and Apply Content theories
or Process Theories of Motivation to the mythical business.
Job attitudes, Job personality and Job Satisfaction for Gig workers as well
as employees.
Decision making and Team management: Apply Rational Decision-
Making Model or Bounded rationality Decision making Model,
Formulation of team and Model of team effectiveness. Communication Process Model (i.e. Communication channel, direction
of communication and relaying and receiving feedback)
The assignment should be written in a neat, professional and engaging manner
using report format, meaning that you need to develop coherent, well-
supported and logical arguments following a basic report structure with
approximately 4000 words (Excluding references and table of content).
The final report should include the following information:
Table of contents
List of illustrations and List of tables (if applicable)
Introduction – Include the purpose, scope and outline of the report.
Main body – Use appropriate headings/sub-headings for different
sections, and include at least the following information:
o Background – Provide an overview of your mythical business.
Briefly describe your mythical business (e.g., approximate size,
what service or product is provided, where it is located, major
competitors, etc.). This section should be relatively short as you
will provide further detailed information as you apply OB concepts
to aspects of your business.
o Analysis and application of OB topics– Apply OB concepts to
manage and improve your mythical business. Draw on the guiding
questions and suggestions provided in workshops and on LMS.
Develop coherent, logical arguments that are supported with
relevant academic literature and other high quality evidence.
o Use in-text citations throughout your report.
Conclusion – Summarise and integrate your findings. Identify any
limitations within your report.
References – Include the full reference information for all sources cited
in your report.
Note that this report should not include an executive summary or
separate recommendations section. Please do not include these items as
they will take unnecessary space away from your main analysis Inclusion
of these sections will likely result in a lower overall mark.
Research and References
Take a scholarly approach and should incorporate relevant organisational
behaviour theory and research. Your group is expected to read and use
information from a minimum of 15 academic research articles. Academic research articles refer to articles published in academic, peer-reviewed journal
articles. The academic research articles should be relevant to the topic,
contemporary (i.e., published in the last 5 years) and of high quality (i.e.,
published in journals ranked by the Australian Business Dean’s Council or
Australian Research Council as A*, A, or B).
Cite all sources in the main text of the document and include a separate
reference page at the end of the document. The in-text citations and
references should be formatted using either the current version of the Harvard
style or APA 6th
edition. It is important to maintain consistency of the
reference style you have chosen.
