Scenario:
You are a consultant of a management company. A newly set up company Jones Co. Ltd engages the service from your consultancy to investigate and evaluate certain conditions in the company. Jones Co. Ltd. is a company producing beauty and grooming products. The CEO of Jones Co. Ltd, Mr. Edward, requested you to reside at the company for at least one week to observe the operations of the company. Prior residing at Jones Co. Ltd, Mr. Edward, had a face-to-face meeting with you. From the discussion, Mr. Edward revealed the following important points.
i) Mr Edward received some feedback from the Human Resources Manager complaining the Sales Manager often misuses his authority asking the staff from the Human Resources Department to complete certain tasks for the Sales and Marketing Department. Mr. Edward would like to understand the reasons arising to this matter. Mr. Edward is having the opinion that it is quite impossible for this matter to happen since both the Sales Manager and the Human Resources Manager are having the same position and the same ranking in the organisation. You need to explain to Mr Edward whether this scenario is possible to happen in the organisation. Your explanation must be supported with the application of the relevant theories.

ii) Currently, Jones Co. Ltd. is facing two problems. Firstly, the Purchasing Department has a problem of reordering the stocks needed for production. As a result, it causes delay in the production line.
Secondly, Mr Edward has a direction to expand the company in the future, but he has doubts on which approach to use in solving this problem. Furthermore, he is planning to form a group to take charge of this expansion project. He is uncertain whether having a group to assist him in decision making is advisable.
With the application of the relevant theories, and based on your capacity as a management consultant, advise Mr Edward on this matter.

iii) Even though Jones Co. Ltd is relatively new in the market, Mr. Edward is a visionary man. He has a plan to train up good and competent managers so that these managers can become good leaders of the company in the future. On the other hand, Mr. Edward is interested to learn about some relevant leadership theories so that he may apply some of these theories in the company. Mr. Edward feedback that he often has concerns about the work and also his staff.
Advise Mr Edward accordingly by addressing specifically to his concerns with the relevant management theories.

iv) Mr. Edward is a very capable man. He anticipates there will be a need to motivate his employees so that the employees are more motivated in supporting him to achieve the organisational goals. Mr Edward is particularly interested to know the motivation theory by Maslow.
Advise Mr Edward regarding the motivation theories by Maslow. Mr Edward also expects your suggestions on how best he may apply this theory in his organisation.

The face-to-face discussion provides a good guideline for the one week of observation at Jones co. Ltd. After a week of observation in the company, you agreed with the statements and opinions from the CEO. As a professional consultant, you are responsible to produce a report to Mr. Edward explaining your view point in concurrent with the management philosophy. Your report may include the necessary advice to the CEO if any.
