Coursework
Write a brief (approx 1000 words) account on each of the following subjects in the style of an editorial or article in either a trade magazine of your choice or a popular science magazine such as New Scientist (even if the magazine you use as a template does not use references you must do so.
1) Pump and treat combined with hydraulic gradient control for groundwater remediation and receptor protection.
.
Choose 2-3 examples to illustrate the principles- Do not just present a long list. Give details of the chemistry and physics involved. Be selective
2) Continuous ground gas monitoring as a means of speeding up ground gas risk assessments
You should also illustrate that you understand the traditional approach to ground gas monitoring and why it can take a long time.
4) The role of Fenton’s reagent in contaminated site remediation.
You may include in-situ and ex situ examples.
Word Length
Word Length: Total words 3000 words +/- 10% – no more than 1200 for each question. The word count must be given and does not include references Coventry Harvard referencing .
Learning Outcomes Assessed
The intended learning outcomes for this module are that on completion of this module the student should be able to:
1. Plan and carry out a desktop study and site survey for investigation on a contaminated site.
2. Discuss the advantages of proactive contaminated land investigations and relate the investigative process to both the regulatory regime and land restoration process.
3. Specify a suitable analytical and sampling program for a given contaminated site investigation and specify and design a sampling regime for monitoring a landfill site both during operation and whilst data is gathered prior to the issue of a completion certificate whilst showing an understanding of the QA and QC procedures involved.
4. Specify and review the adoption of physical, chemical and biological treatment methods associated with the treatment of contaminated soil and groundwater and other wastes
