Assignment One: 50 per cent of module marks
The Reflective Essay
The first part of this course has been about the development of your professional and academic self. This assignment asks you to reflect upon and rate yourself using a variety of dimensions to include Professional Dispositions, the Five Minds for the Future and Emotional Intelligences.
Content and Structure
This assignment should use the metacognitive tools and other theoretical tools at your disposal to underpin your reflection and address how you will:
Continue your development as an upcoming professional (dispositions); Become a global citizen capable of making a contribution as a manager or leader in organizations and the world at large; Monitor your development as a professional (metacognitive tools like “EI”, 5 Minds, etc.)
Questions you may ask yourself to help you in your reflection include:
Where am I now? Where do I want or need to be? How will I get there?

You may wish to include a brief introduction to yourself (your personal and professional background) to provide a context for your analysis and plans. You may wish to use visual representations and other analytical tools such as charts/graphs, concept maps, SWOT analysis, Force Field Analysis, etc. to assist you during your reflection process.
You need to consider what to include in the body of your report and what to include in the appendices as be as creative as possible. Essential information must be included in the body of the report and will be counted in the word count. Extra illustrative information may be included in the appendices.
Your essay will be assessed using the Writing Rubric located at the top of the course shell.
Students will decide on the appropriate structure and content but we would expect to see the following elements:
Introduction: setting the context, addressing the question, the approach to answering the question
Main body of the assignment
o Essay content, analysis and review of literature. All the elements that are included in the assignment must be adequately analysed and supported with material that is properly cited, paraphrased and referenced from a wide variety of external sources.
Conclusion: bring together your main points; address the main question and adequately summarize the findings of your assignment.

Marking criteria:

The following points should be noted for this part of the assessment:
This is an individual assessment, not a group task.
Your assignment should be submitted on the due date by 11.59 p.m (23.59 hours) VLE (UTC) time at the latest. In order to submit your assignment please use the submission link titled “SUBMISSION LINK: Assignment 1 – The Reflective Essay” that is located in Week 5 on the VLE page of your module.
Literature should be sourced from a range of journal articles and textbooks. A limited range of readings will be made available.
The word count is 3000 words +/- 10%. This does not include the reference list and any appendices the assignment may include.
Accurate referencing of sources is crucial in this coursework. The referencing system used on this module is the APA Reference system. Please make sure you are familiar with this. Marks will be deducted for inaccurate referencing.
The assessment must be submitted electronically via ‘Turnitin’.
