Management Case Study – 2,500 words written case study on the management of a chosen facility, organization, or event. You are required to design and present, in case-study format, an analysis of selected management issues in a named sports facility organization, or event of your choice, selected from one of the categories in the list below. You should adopt a concise, focused style and write in sufficient detail to fully explain the key ideas within each of the required sections, making sure that you cover each of them adequately. Where appropriate, if you wish, you can include tables of data, graphs, or other illustrative material, but if these are used they need to be chosen with care and closely integrated with your written report. You should make an effort to link theory and practice throughout, drawing on the published literature as you go along. NB: If you choose a facility, your focus must be on a single facility type and the specific managerial and operational issues that this presents. You should not therefore choose a 'sports centre' or a 'leisure centre' unless you focus on ONE facility type within it. Issues to be addressed Your case study should address each of the following ten areas in sequence, and in presenting your case study you should retain the headings given: 1  Key features of the facility (including sector, owners, operators, year of opening, construction costs, key recreational components, usage spectrum, catchment, operating arrangements, participant numbers and annual financial turnover). 2  Operating and management philosophy (including aims and objectives, and mission statement or equivalent). 3  Management complement and staffing structure. 4  Key management issues (particularly those that are centre and facility-specific or considered to be important by the management team). 5  Facility programming (including an analysis of the underpinning rationale). 6  Marketing and promotional strategy (what form does this take, what budget made available, how commercially aware). 7  Sports development. Any noteworthy sports development initiatives undertaken or planned by the management team. 8  Staff development. Ongoing management training and staff development in progress. 9  Evaluation of performance. Any evidence that you can find of the use of benchmarking, quality assurance or performance indicators. 10  Résumé of key points (summarize the management issues that you consider to be of greatest significance). In presenting the above you should try where possible to: Critique, rather than merely describe, what you observe. Highlight exemplars of good practice (why is this case-study noteworthy?). Integrate your writing throughout with relevant theory drawn from your reading, citing appropriate sources in-text, using Harvard (author/date) system. Evaluate your findings carefully in your closing résumé.
