Task 2 template for course teaching staff
This task is an individual report worth 50% of the overall marks for TSM102.
It is due on Saturday, 3rd June 2017 at 2359hrs.
The word limit is 2,500 words. This word limit does not include contents in tables/figures/charts/diagrams nor the reference list.
The criteria for the marking sheet is as follows:

TITLE PAGE (Including student names, ID number, course title and code, task 2, tutorial time)
NO EXECUTIVE SUMMARY/ABSTRACT ARE NEEDED
1.0 INTRODUCTION (400 words)
This section should provide an overview of the report. It will document the essence of the Advancing Tourism 2016-2020 Plan in terms of its objectives and how it seeks to get there.
2.0 EVIDENCE OF A SYSTEMS APPROACH (250 words)
State how the Advancing Tourism 2016-2020 plan demonstrates evidence of a systems approach (see Week 2 learning material). Students will need to show evidence of the following, possibly using a diagram consisting of:
Tourist generating regions with examples from the plan
Departing tourists
Tourist destination regions
Returning tourists
Transit regions
3.0 STAKEHOLDERS AND ROLES (250 words)
Briefly (in 1-2 sentences) define what stakeholders are (academic references must be used). Students will choose TWO relevant stakeholder groups and discuss how they contribute to the plan.
A table should be used to present the following information:

4.0 TARGET MARKETS AND SEGMENTATION BASES (250 words)
Briefly (in 1-2 sentences) define market segmentation (academic references must be used).
Explain why market segmentation is of importance to Queensland
State TWO target markets within the plan. Identify the segmentation bases used.
5.0 ARRAY OF TLE EXPERIENCES (250 words)
Within the plan, identify TWO experiences and categorise them as follows:
Experiences Location in Queensland Type of experiences (natural/cultural/urban)
Consider how these examples are related to the overall strategic objectives of the plan.
6.0 POTENTIAL AND CHALLENGES OF OPERATIONALISING THE PLAN (500 words)
Students will need to identify TWO areas of potential and separately, TWO challenges concerning the operationalisation of the plan.
This section should be supported using academic journals.
7.0 RECOMMENDATIONS (300 words)
Students to identify and discuss TWO relevant recommendations to enhance the plan. Academic justification required to support the validity of the stated recommendations. These could include:
Integration/Alliance with other states/territories
Infrastructural developments
Multiple uses of TLE facilities and experiences
Resident involvement
Macro-environment changes e.g. economic, technology, workforce
This could appear as a table in the following format:
Recommendation as to how the plan can be enhanced Justification
Show how the recommendations explicitly relate to any aspect of the strategic plan.
8.0 CONCLUSION (300 words)
This section serves to summarise key outcomes of the report. No new material should be added here.
INDEPENDENT THOUGHT ASSESSMENT
This criteria is assessed showing evidence of the following points as an overall component of the report:
The complexity of the plan and how this could be an issue
The disruptive changes to the tourism scene on the back of political uncertainty
We are already 2 years into the plan - Are we at a spot where we have met targeted progress outcomes?
Do these align with the larger vision within Tourism Australia?
While we have this plan, other destinations/regions have also similar ones and will compete for likewise markets
What timeframe exists for these plans to be realised in each component/aspect?
How has the student demonstrated the ability to synthesise information – Academic, reliable sources, range of sources?
PRESENTATION
Report to follow structure as prescribed above. Use of third person “The report…. Or Target markets are…..”, rather than I.
Referencing style is that of Harvard format, in which a template is available on BlackBoard assessment Task 2 link.
