Observe a consumer through an entire purchase process. Start in the parking lot and see what you can determine about the individual by the person’s vehicle (license plate state, stickers, old/new model, etc.), attire, etc. Without being detected, follow the individual through a store and observe his/her behavior. For example, does he/she study prices, use a shopping list, ask questions, handle products, use a shopping cart, buy in bulk or small packages, etc.? How does he/she conclude the purchase, including how does he/she pay? What can you surmise about the individual and the decision-making process based on what you observed? Incorporate terminology and concepts from the Consumer Behavior chapter, especially the consumer decision-making process. Based on what you know about your own purchase behavior and what you observed with the consumer you followed, map out the consumer behavior process as best you can. Make sure you think about and include factors that influence purchase behavior. Submit a typed, double-spaced report on your observations, your model of consumer decision-making and influencing factors, and conclusions.
