Task 2 PowerPoint Presentation (2.1,2.2, 2.3 and M1, M3)
You should use your own work practice/placement from the Health & Social Care sector to support your answers for ALL tasks Or use the scenario.
Scenario
As part of the Applebee Health Care Homes strategy for improving efficiency, a team has been formulated to identify problems within various departments (Human Resource Management, Information Systems, Record Keeping , Purchasing & Supplies) (2.1). Feedback from surveys have identified one key factor which needs to be dealt with immediately:
Poor time management, as staff are not available at the allocated times as a result of lateness, which impacts on the everyday care to clients, tasks are left incomplete because of time pressure, e.g. when administering personal grooming or administering medication. When staff are challenged their reaction is unprofessionally communicated across departments, service users and clients.
A number of complaints have been made and several reliable health care assistants, senior staff and administrators have left as a result. This is hindering the process of meeting targets to increase revenue and reduce staff turnover to meet the needs of service users. In your role as a Consultant Interim Manager for ‘Applebee Health Care Homes’, there are a number of actions that you will need to take.
Continued:
You will need to submit a 10 slide presentation. Each slide will need to have an extensive written section, which you must include in the slide notes. Slides without slide notes will NOT be considered.
a) You will need to identify the problems and develop solutions to work-based problems in the scenario or your workplace, e.g. problem analysis; researching changes in the workplace; generating solutions; choosing a solution (2.1):
b) First, you will suggest some strategies that could be used as effective communication in a variety of styles and appropriate manner, e.g. verbal and non-verbal; awareness and use of body language, ICT as an effective communication medium; staff meetings, etc. Consider Interpersonal skills of personal effectiveness; working with others; use of initiative; negotiating skills. (2.2).
c) Second you are going to identify time-management strategies that could be applied across the department’s mentioned in the scenario or areas in your workplace such as prioritising workload; making and keeping appointments; working steadily rather than erratically; reliable estimate of task time, etc. (2.3).

Task 3 Report (3.1,3.2, 3.3 and M1, M3,D2)
You should use your own work practice/placement from the Health & Social Care sector to support your answers for ALL tasks.
One of the most significant factors that contribute to the performance of a health and social care organisation relates to how people work together individually and as part of a team. Your employer has asked you to carry out an internal analysis of an organisation of your choice. You must provide examples to support your answer in this brief report.
a) Explain the roles of people in the organisation who work together and operate as part of a team to achieve the aims and objectives of the organisation. You may want to think about the purpose of teams and groups; e.g. nature and dynamic of team and group work in formal and informal settings, flexibility and adaptability to differing work situations, being a team player, and conflict resolution (3.1).
b) Provide an analysis of how this can be influenced by team dynamics e.g., selecting team members, specialist roles, identification of team/work groups, the stages in team development (3.2).
c) Based on this, suggest alternative ways the organisation could introduce, complete and achieve team goals, e.g. action planning, monitoring and feedback, ethics, effective leadership skills, e.g. setting standards (3.3).

Scenario
Currently at Applebee Health Care Homes, there is only one member of waking night staff on duty after
10 p.m. so clients have to be in bed by this time. Service users are sometimes rushed in their preparation for bed and ‘encouraged’ to put bed clothes on straight after dinner, as it makes things easier for the care staff. One service user who needs quite a lot of support goes to bed at 6.30 p.m. and doesn’t have company in the evening.
You are encouraged to reflect on your practice for developing strategies to solve problems when they occur. Consider a problem which you have encountered within your organisation or use the scenario above in Task 4.
a) Briefly define and specify what the problem is, through analysis. Evaluate tools and methods for developing solutions to problem you have identified such as using problem-solving methods and tools; tracking progress and results (4.1).
b) Develop an appropriate strategy for resolving the problem which has been specified in a). You may want to consider, such as, sources of information; selection and implementation of the best corrective action bearing in mind e.g. timescale, resources etc. (4.2)
c) Finally in your report, evaluate the potential impact on the business of implementing the strategy, such as whether the problem was solved or not; measurement of solution against specification and desired outcomes; sustainability (4.3).
