This essay is mainly reflected on my experience of my marketing portfolio for the past 12 weeks. The purpose of this essay is to reflect on my learning through my three newspaper articles and trend analysis on Trapt Bar and Escape Room. I scored a credit for my first article, and a distinction for second and third article. After I got my first article back, I know this will effect on my overall mark for my portfolio if I did not make any improvement for my next article and trend analysis.
From the first article I have learned that I did not clarify well enough on the marketing issues that Dominos facing. I also need a greater explanation on the level of power that each stakeholders from Domino are holding during the underpay crisis. I find it is essential to do more research that related to the article and the affect organisation and be better prepared. I also find that it is important to create a SWOT analysis for the organisation in order to better understand their problems and opportunities.
The reason that I performed badly were I did not put in all my effort. I got overwhelmed by other major assignment from this course as well as other subject. I also did not manage my time effectively, and putting work as my priority as I work over 30hours per week. In order to improve the situation for my next article, I plan to spend more time on researching and reading. Start early in advance to plan my article and do research. Instead of working over 30hours per week, I have to make sure I will not work more than 15hours per week and spent my time on my assignment and projects. And seek help at LAS centre in library if I need some assistance on my article.
After I made some changes on my priorities and greater effort in researching and reading article. I did see improvement in my result for the second article – Ardent Leisure. And this is cause by the precise explanation of the the marketing issue face by Ardent Leisure and an eye catching graph that shown the level of stakeholder’s power and clarify from low power of stakeholders to high power of stakeholder. Since I found using lecture note is helpful, I continue use it as a guide for my second article too. In addition, I always make a SWOT analysis just to better understand of it problems and opportunities when I create the marketing strategies at a later stage. The marketing strategies for my second article includes product, promotion and price. The reason why I choose this 3Ps was because Ardent Leisure need some changes on their product and service they provided while promotion and price are essential to attract greater customers after the tragedy issues happened last year.
Once I believe my tactics will help me get a greater mark, I have keep on using the same tactic. However, I did not use the same marketing strategies that I used for my first nor second article. Every company is dealing with different issues and thus different issues cannot be solve by the same solution. So, for my third article- Westfarmer Ltd, I have used product, promotion and people as my marketing strategy. The reason why I chose this strategy is because Westfarmer are facing with high level of competitor with a competitive price and weak economy. Therefore it is important for Westfarmer to build a stronger product range with affordable prices and better promotion offer compare to its rivals. Apart from that, it is essential for Westfarmer to attract and hire the right ‘people’ within the organisation. Not only to deliver an excellence customer service, is it to have the right candidate like manager to be able to form reliable relationship and networking with credible suppliers and other stakeholders. As a result, I’ve successfully score a distinction for my third article too.
