Anne is pleased that the family will be closer to town as her husband is recovering from a back Injury and her daughter Jessica has asthma. Anne believes strongly that it is her duty to care for her mother, as she is an only child. Anne is grieving her loss of employment, as this has given her an outlet and a sense of independence. She struggles with the dynamics of balancing being a mother, carer and wife. Her relationship with John is complicated by his problematic alcohol use and his explosive outbursts. Anne is highly stressed, she seeks comfort in food and this leads to weight gain.
