Ben Kellaway,Executive Manager – HR & Marketing Finance, Commonwealth Bank of Australia An experienced finance professional with over 15 yearsʼ experience specialising in financial and management accounting across a number of industries. Currently an Executive Manager at CBA in Finance, where I lead a team of professional accountants and support the Group Marketing and Human Resource functions. My leadership style is aligned to strength based coaching and ensuring we as a team are constantly challenged and developing. I commenced at the Commonwealth Bank over 7 years ago initially as a contractor working on the external market results announcement. With an intention never to stay more than 3 months given I had a contract lined up at Macquarie Bank. I found that the finance team at CBA encapsulated a culture that was extremely collaborative and progressive; the fit for me was perfect. I spent my first 2 years working in a Group Finance management accounting role, which involved month-end, market reporting, Board reporting and ensuring I was developing a deep understanding of the drivers of the Group. I then spent close to three years working in the Groupʼs forecasting team, which manages the planning process starting at strategic planning right through to target setting. This role also had me doing some really interesting pieces of analysis like reporting on our competitors. During my time in these two Group Finance roles I was able to build a strong network, something which tends to be difficult in large organisations. In my last 18 months I have transitioned into a role, similar to a CFO role, which supports the Group Marketing and Human Resource leadership teams. Like many my career started as an accountant in a Chartered firm after being convinced by a friend to join him in a mid-tier firm, BKR Walker Wayland where I completed my CA. I moved through business services, audit and due diligence and also spent nearly a year in London where I was transferred with BKR. The experience I gained gave me a solid grounding in the profession and a strong base of skills which have carried me through my career. Outside of work Iʼm a keen runner and swimmer and recently completed an Ironman in up in Cairns.
