Introduction
Driving is considered as the controlled operation or movement of a vehicle. Driving in Victoria is not an easy task. Certain rules and regulations are followed by the drivers in Victoria. All the rules are strictly enforced due to the personal and public safety. Rules like speed limit, seat belts, mobile phones, drugs and alcohol are taken into consideration while driving.
While doing research on this topic, it is found that many accidents happen on the roads of Victoria even after following the rules and regulations. In 2015, 252 lives were lost while it has been increased by 15.5% in 2016. On the basis of 5 year average of gender, males were more as compared to the females who lost their lives i.e. 185 males and 77 females.
According to Victoria Police, there are disastrous five issues which includes speed, impairment, distraction, tiredness and seatbelts. Some issues are linked to young drivers as well because they are inexperienced, they disobey the rules and use mobile phones while driving. Drinking and driving is also common problem to be discussed. Some people drive those cars which are old and have less safety features. This also become the cause of accidents on the roads. Thus, in this topic we will discuss about Victorian roads.
Aims and Objectives
The main aim of the project is to find out the cause of increase in the number of accidents on Victorian roads. The following objectives will help to achieve this aim:
Recruiting of more Victoria police staff because right now as per Victorian government they need more police members. If they recruit more members, the police members will have more chances to be on the road and make visible presence. It also gives police a chance to put more members to work more night shifts because that is the time when fatigue is more likely to occur in drivers.
The another objective is that there should be more road safety signs on the roads so Victorian road users can be more educated and understand the risks of driving erratically on the road network.
There should be mandatory information sessions about road safety rules and regulations in Victorian schools and colleges by VIC roads and Victorian police. So, the young generation can be educated and when they start driving they will have better understanding of road safety rules, hazards and risks involved in driving.
A Brief Methodology
T o effectively analyse the aim of the project following methodologies will be undertaken:
Literature Review: The data to find out the problems related to Victorian roads has been taken from various sources like- google scholar, various Victorian roads websites-TAC, Herald Sun and journal articles. Deep study is done from VIC road website. Victoria Police’s perspective has also been taken into account and proved to be helpful.
Data Series and Surveys: Innumerable information has been collected from series of data and surveys. Lives lost in annual year is quite clearly shown in the table which is already discussed above in the introduction.
Observing key indicators: Examining critical information from Transport Accident Commission, they have outlined few key indicators that helps to reduce road death toll and build new strategies by Victoria police and VIC roads.
Two methods will be used for data analysis i.e. qualitative and quantitative. In qualitative analysis online forums and surveys with financial advisors are used whereas quantitative analysis will make use of figures, pie charts, excel sheets, mathematical and statistical modelling available online and via scholarly articles.
