Assessment Task 4: Self-awareness audit and reflection Why complete this assessment task? Your values, interests and skills describe what you like and what you are good at. It is important to know these before you begin to consider career goals and apply for jobs. By knowing this detail about yourself you are able to align yourself to certain roles and gain skills that you may not have. The reflection aspect of this task requires you to think more deeply about your individual situation and apply what you have learnt about the determinants of health to your situation. It is a valuable skill to reflect and critical within the health discipline; this is something you will master by the end of your degree. This assessment task is part of a larger career development sequence which you will be introduced to each year of your degree. You should retain this assignment and add it to your career portfolio as you build on this ready for graduation. No matter where your career interests lie, this assessment will ensure you are considering your individual attributes. This task assesses your achievement of Unit Learning Outcomes (ULOs) 2, 3 and 6 along with Graduate Learning Outcomes (GLOs) 1-3, 5 and 6. What do I need to do? 1: Complete the self-awareness audits You need to complete the interests audit, the values audit and the skills audit. These three templates are Word documents- you can download them and simply fill in the boxes! 2: Complete the action plan You need to complete the action plan. This is also a Word document- download and fill in the table! 3: Complete the reflection (applying the determinants of health) This part will need to be written up as a report (500 words). You should have a cover page (not included in word count) for this document and a reference list (see details on this below when academic writing and referencing are discussed). Based on your audit and your action plan, complete the following questions: Part 3a: Reflection Part 1 (20 marks) 1. What are your results telling you? E.g. what interest group do you fall into? What are your career values and your current skills? Describe your results. 2. So what? What is important about these findings? Do you think these represent you and your interests? If not why do you think you fell into this group? How do you relate to the findings? 3. What now? What do you think you should do with these results? What is your next step in thinking about how you can apply and or improve these results? Part 3b: Reflection Part 2 (30 marks) Reflect on your current status and why you might be in this situation based on the determinants of health theory you are now familiar with. Based on your comments above, reflect on your current status and consider the role that one determinant may have played getting you here. Refer to any determinant listed in any of the texts we have covered (chapter 2 of the 'Understanding Health' textbook, The Canadian Facts or The Solid Facts). You can therefore consider social, biological and environmental determinants that may impact you. Be sure to refer to the literature covered in class when you refer to the determinants. For example: I believe my confidence stems from “social support” (World Health Organisation 2003). My family has always been a big support for mine and built my confidence over the years. 4: Check your assignment meets formatting and referencing requirements Formatting requirements Guidelines for presentation: • MSWord document format (.docx). NO other format will be accepted. • 1.5 line spacing, 2.5 cm margins • Easy to read font size 11 or 12 • Your student ID number and name in the header. • Page numbers consecutively in the footer Your cover page must include: • Your name and student number • The total word count (not including the in-text references or reference list) • The reference style you have selected (Harvard or APA). Every source you refer to must have an accurate in-text citation using the Deakin Harvard OR APA referencing style. • DO NOT use footnotes. • All direct quotes must have page numbers in addition to author, year. Full details of all sources you refer to in-text must be listed in your list of references (at the end of your assignment), and correctly formatted using the Deakin Harvard OR APA referencing style. For more help with researching, academic writing and referencing post a message in the Ask your Librarians or Language and Learning Advisers discussion board. 5: Check your work through the Turnitin Originality Check Once you have finished your assignment, it is a very good idea to submit a copy to the Turnitin Originality Check. You can access this by clicking the 'More' tab at the top of the HBS107 site. In this assignment, you should only use Turnitin to check your reflection (not the audit templates or action plan). Turnitin will identify sections that are not adequately paraphrased- this will be helpful, as it will allow you to re-write these in your own words prior to submission. A Turnitin report will also be automatically generated when you submit your assignment to the AT4 dropbox so markers can review your work. NOTE: Submitting to Turnitin does not count as final assignment submission. 6: Submit your assignment Ensure two documents are uploaded into the dropbox on the HBS107 site on Deakin sync: 1. The audits and action plan. 2. The reflection document with cover page and reference list. How much does AT4 contribute to my overall result in HBS107? Assessment Task 4 contributes 25%. When is AT4 due and how do I submit? Assessment Task 4 is due Week 12 (study week) Tuesday 30 May by 5:00 PM. You will need to submit your assessment task online via the AT4 dropbox. No hard copy submission is required. What support will I get to complete AT4? To complete this assignment successfully you need to engage with the seminar exercises and the related literature as well as carefully reading through these instructions. Your tutor can give you advice on completing this assignment but will not check any drafts. You should also use the Assessment Task 4 rubric to review your assignment before you submit it.
