Choose the correct answer for each of the following multiple choice questions.
(A1) Resource leveling ensures that resource demand will exceed resource availability:
I. True
II. Partly True
III. False
(A2) You are a maintenance contractor for a sports complex facility. Your inventory costs for
material resources would not include
I. Ordering and storage costs for materials

(A5) Rider Jessie is a project manger in an airport expansion project. Rider’s procurement team
decided that they should keep minimal or no inventories of certain materials, especially
due to high reliability and availability of timely material supply. Moreover, the project
division alerted that that bulk storage arrangement at site for such materials is not very
good. Rider’s resource strategy should be :

(A7) A machine foundation is planned to cost $100000. At one stage observation of this
foundation work, the actual cost of work performed was $35000. The planned value and

(A8) Your project is already delayed by some rework and changes. As a project manager, you
have identified that availability of certain key resource is now limited or constrained, Your
top priority for allocating that resource in your revised schedule should aim for:
I. Training site staff for quality control and waste minimization
II. Fast-tracking non-critical activities with alternative resourcesMME80001 Resource Planning and Management – Mock-up trial for final assessment (S1 2017)

III. Attending critical activities and managing through float and alternatives
IV. Informing the top management and preparing for liquidated damages
(A9) GAMMABEE is a large contractor in the region. You are the project manager of main
contractor (GAMMABEE) in a large infrastructure project. The management reserve
available in your project can be deemed as:
I. A amount that is reserved in other project’s contingencies
II. An amount reserved for unforeseen works that are within the scope of your
project
III. An amount of your project budget withheld for the management control
purposes
IV. All of the above
V. None of the above
(A10) An earned value analysis found that the budgeted cost of work performed (BCWP) =
$95000; budged cost of work scheduled (BCWS) = $98000; and actual cost of work
performed (ACWP) = $92000. The project condition refers:
I. Behind schedule and over-budget
II. Behind schedule and under-budget
III. Ahead of schedule and over-budget
IV. Ahead of schedule and under-budgetMME80001 Resource Planning and Management – Mock-up trial for final assessment (S1 2017)

SECTION B (Answer any TWO full questions from this section)
Question B1 Question B1 has 2 built-in sub-questions (i) & (ii). Answer both sub-questions of B1.
After recent bushfires, some public recreational facilities in certain parts of Western
Australia have been significantly damaged. You are a local construction contractor who
obtained a major contract for repairing and refurbishing those facilities in this affected
region.
(i) By considering suitable hypothetical assumptions, you are required to identify 6 key
material resources and prepare an ABC analysis for material resources planning in
this project.
(ii) Discuss your strategies for storage and buffer stocks of hazardous but non-volatile
materials in this post-disaster project of rebuilding recreational infrastructure
Question B2 Question B1 has 2 built-in sub-questions (i) & (ii). Answer both sub-questions of B1.
(i) You are the strategy consultant for RIGHT SECURE, who is a specialist building
security equipment manufacturer in Australia. This company mainly produces
sophisticated CCTV security cameras with special lens. By analyzing following
points, you are required to recommend a suitable strategy for the sourcing special
lenses required for camera manufacturing. If the lenses are bought from an overseas
supplier, RIGHT SECURE will need to arrange relevant storage, which requires a
fixed cost of $25000 annually. The overseas supplier has agreed to supply the lenses
for $15 per unit. Alternatively, if the lenses are procured from a local manufacturer,
BRIGHT SECURA will need a smaller storage and in-house processing facility with
a fixed cost of $275000 annually and variable cost per unit (including local supplier
bills) is $3.5 per unit.
(a) If the first year projection of annual demand is 90000, which supplier is
advantageous to the RIGHT SECURE (i.e. local or overseas)?
(b) If the next year demand is not certain, what will be your decision?
(ii) Discuss the suitability of Equipment Control Matrix OR Equipment Process Maturity
Model for major equipment resources in a large highway infrastructure project.
(Hint: Assume suitable examples to support your discussions)
Question B3 Question B3 has 5 sub-parts. You are required answer ANY 2 sub-parts of Question B3
Assuming that you are a Queensland based Specialist Contractor, who obtained a major contract
award in a large infrastructure project in Western Australia and you have some other
projects as well. Write short notes on any two the following:
(i) Location based management for construction projects in time overrun scenarios.
Note: Your project site is in a remote location
(ii) Project controlling with Critical Ratio observations in sub-contracted works
(iii) Planning and managing equipment resources and related costs in your inter-state
project
(iv) Needs based motivational measures for your technical staff in the remote project site
(v) You are responsible for design management in a project. With a suitable task example
from a design project, explain the dependency structure of coupled tasks (“Chicken
and Egg”).MME80001 Resource Planning and Management – Mock-up trial for final assessment (S1 2017)

Question C1 Question C1 has 2 built-in sub-questions (i) & (ii). Answer all sub-questions of C1.
(i) Assume that you are a specialist subcontractor owing several imported equipment.
Calculate the expected ‘hourly’ owning and operating cost for the 2nd year of operation
of a specific twin-engine scraper as per following details:
• Cost of equipment = $150000
• Tire cost = $12000
• Estimated life = 5 years
• Salvage value = $20000
• Depreciation method = sum-of-the-year’s digits

Question C2 Question C2 has 2 built-in sub-questions (i), & (ii). Answer both sub-questions of C2.
Assume that you are the Project Manager in a high hazard petrochemical industry expansion project.
(i) You are required to describe your resource planning and management strategies for
effective project control in any two of the following three scenarios:
Scenario – A Scenario – B Scenario – C
BCWS = Budgeted Cost of Work Scheduled; BCWP = Budgeted Cost of Work Performed; ACWP = Actual Cost of
Work Performed
(ii) Assume that you are the subcontractor for a 3 kilometer long linear project in this
petrochemical expansion, which has following 5 activities: (P) Excavating trench; (Q)
