Learning objectives:
On completion of this assignment students will be able to:
a. describe the concepts and principles of implementation of an information system
b. outline the purpose and objectives of systems implementation within a system
development life cycle particularly maintenance
c. develop a detailed plan for the implementation of packaged software
d. compare and contrast the techniques used in system implementation and their solutions
to problems routinely encountered
Scenario & Requirements: Financial Management Business Group (FMBG) Inc. is a large
organisation of approximately 1500 employees with sites distributed geographically across Australia
and New Zealand. It has a number of help desks and IT support staff at many of the larger site
locations.
Over the years IT Service Management has grown in an ad hoc manner. You have charged with the
responsibility to make perform the following for the CIO at FBMG:
Provided a recommendation to the IT Department at FMBG regarding a suitable Service
Management System to meet their needs.
As well as the technology (such as service support software), there needs to be in place a
comprehensive agreement regarding Service Levels for all the IT services that with the
business needs of FMBG. In other words, you need to make recommendations for a Service
Level Agreement (SLA)
Provide an outline for the implementation of the new system. This should include (but is not
restricted to) testing, deployment, training, documentation
FMBG Inc. requires the final report as a formal report to management.
Gathering information: Use the lecture notes, tutorial work, Internet and other sources (textbooks,
magazines, journals, personal contacts etc) to find examples of Service Catalogue and Service Level
Agreement.. Ensure you cite the sources of your information correctly. Using this information, make
recommendations as outline in the requirements.
Planning: This is not a trivial assignment, as it may take a while to locate the information, and
consider the item/area and write the report, so you need to plan carefully.
Marking: A detailed criteria based assessment form is available on Moodle. Assessment
includes correct use of research techniques and report presentation.
