Assignment 2: Reflective essay (40%) Part a: Learning contract (10%) Word limit: 500 words (+- 10%) Task For this task you are required to prepare a Learning Contract which explains your learning goals for the work placement. To complete the task you are required to: Based on your personal career plan, select one capability and one competency you would like to develop during your work placement. Justify your selection. Write a SMART goal for the capability and competency you are focusing on. Develop an action plan to achieve the objectives. Briefly explain the importance of writing a reflective journal during work placement in relation to achieving your learning goals Part b: Mid-placement report (30%) Word limit: 1500 words (+- 10%) Task You are required to complete a reflective journal during your placement. With reference to your journal complete a mid-placement report which reflects on the following points: Describe your work placement organisation and draw the organisational structure. Describe your position within this structure. Discuss your current learning on placement: Explain the activities you have undertaken so far that are assisting you in meeting the Learning Goals which you specified in your Learning Contract. Discuss the theory/ies and skills you have you drawn upon so far in your work placement to assist you in achieving your learning goals. Within your discussion consider how the theories and skills have been applied in your placement, identifying where you have needed to adapt them to your new work environment. What you have learnt from others during your placement eg. Supervisor, colleagues, guests which are assisting you in achieving your learning goals? Do they provide you with similar or different knowledge to what you have gained in stage 1? Consider why differences between theory and skills learnt in stage 1 and those used in practice occur. Based on your evaluation of your work placement so far, assess your action plan and make recommendations for the remainder of your placement. Use relevant examples from your work placement to support your discussion.
