Case Study - Enabling Digital Policing
Kent Police Force in UK needs to implement significant cost reductions and is looking for IT to help reduce total cost and improve efficiency. Specifically an objective is to reduce the admin overhead of front line officers and enable them to be more effective in their Policing role. The Strategy is to enable ‘Mobile Policing’.
The case study team will be IT consultants who will recommend the IT Strategy required.
The study team will need to understand the existing operational business processes and IT applications and establish opportunities to optimise the processes and procedures enabled by IT and identify the business benefits.
This study will need to research and recommend the appropriate technical architecture to support the future IT Applications. This includes:
Mobile Technologies
Data Centre requirements
The WAN and LAN networks
The Security Environment
Cloud Strategy
Any other new IT Technologies that could provide business benefit.
The research should also identify next generation technologies with their advantages and disadvantages. Compatibility and Flexibility should be considered including the likely timescale for the widespread adoption of these technologies.
Change management - suggestions for training and other initiatives to support new technology and take a positive viewpoint towards further developments.
In the context of Business Continuity Management, identify threats and vulnerabilities and the consequent impacts and disruption
An Individual Report (50%)
The Individual Report will comprise the following elements.
1. Reflection (15%) A reflective analysis of personal skills with respect to Project Management, as follows:
Include a copy of the Team Skills analysis. Using this as a basis, write a reflective review of the development of your own skills and knowledge during the project. Keep the wording concise, use bulleted lists, possibly flow diagrams and/or tables to assist.
Ensure to include Project Management learning.
It can include Project Management skills learnt during the Course
Include a printout or photocopy of a recent job advertisement (NB clear identification of source, date etc) that would be suitable for a new graduate involving some knowledge of project management skills.
Provide an application for the Job Advertisement identifying the strengths which you would bring to the position and identify areas of personal expertise which you would like to develop.
This has to be convincing. Will it get you an interview/the job?
General assertions to be backed up by specific examples
2. Review (15%) An individual review of the team project. This should cover the individual’s view of:
how well the team worked together
whether the team members contributed equally
whether the project progressed in an orderly and predictable manner
how well any changes were managed
whether the team achieved everything that it set out to do
An individual review of team project process improvements. This should include any improvements that the individual would recommend for the next project.
3. Contribution (20%) Contribution to the team report and the presentation based on tutor’s witness statements.
