DFA Product Study Assignment Topic: Design for Assembly Assignment: Motor Assembly Analysis (1) and Redesign (2) Use the Designers Sandpit design for assembly (DFA) methodology to analyse a rear-screen wiper motor. Following the analysis asses the results and determine the suitability of the rear-screen wiper motor. If necessary develop a redesign that addresses the problematic areas identified during the analysis. Produce a report on the product study that includes, as a minimum, the following. Part 1 – Introduction to the study. – Background to the DFA methodology. – Presentation of the DFA results. – You should include a discussion of individual components illustrating, in design for assembly terms, what is good and bad about the design of each part and the assembly. Highlight features that are relevant to the analysis results. – Conclusions from the analysis. Part 2 – Redesign approach. Discuss why you have addressed the areas in your redesign. – Design concepts, including diagrammatic representations. Typically done by developing solutions to particular areas of the product, which can then be put together to form a complete design. – Analysis of the redesign. – Discuss changes to problematic components highlighted earlier and illustrate how your improvements have addressed the negative aspects of the design. – Including risk assessment (identifying what potential risks are associated with changing to the new design). – Discussion and conclusions for the whole report. Each report should not exceed 3000 words and have a one page executive summary.
