Assessment Task 3 focuses on destination insight and is a two-part project consisting of an individual case scenario (Task 3A total of 20%) and personal reflection (Task 3B total of 20%).

A case study will be provided for each part, with questions that focus on the exploration and management of key global challenges and destination insight relevant to global issues in tourism and hospitality. This will include how destination managers can manage operations, resources and brand image.
Students will show real-life operational responses to challenges faced by the hospitality and tourism industry and/or destination. Students will evaluate and recommend scenarios / alternatives, taking into consideration sustainable reporting, practice and relationships between economics, people and the environment. An individual reflection of the process will be a key part of this verifiable assessment.
The purpose of the case study is to provide an opportunity for the student to demonstrate an understanding of the content of the subject and the achievement of the subject objectives.

Sorry Rocks and the Tourism of Regret (Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park)
Case Study Availability: The case studies will be made available on Tuesday 30th May 2017 via LMS
Case Study Due Date: The case studies are ‘time constrained’ and must be completed within seven (7) calendar days. Due Sunday 18th June 2017 at 11.55pm. Late Submissions will NOT be accepted without approved Special Consideration.
The Completed Assessment MUST be uploaded via LMS. Submissions via hard-copy and/or email will not be accepted.
Assessment Task 3A – Individual Case Scenario (20%)
This part of the assessment comprises of two (2) questions each worth 10 marks (total 20 marks). The two (2) questions will available via the LMS at the end of Week 12.
Students are expected to write approximately 500-600 words per question. You are required to undertake ‘limited’ wider reading. At least 2-3 ‘scholarly’ references (in addition to the textbook and Weaver and Lawton, 2014) are required. Internet resources such as Wikipedia and/or quickmba.com are not considered adequate references. In addition, you may choose to refer to the website that relates to the case study as provided. All references must be formatted using APA Style
A Case Study ‘Uluru–Kata Tjuta National Park Management Plan 2010 – 2020’ will be posted on the LMS before the end of the semester. While the Case Study focuses on many of the topics/concepts covered in the course it has an emphasis on the following core themes:
Responsible Marketing and Branding of a Destination
Development and Management of Sustainable Destinations
You will be required to read the Case Study and provide a written response to the questions provided. Each question is worth 10% and must include recommendations for the organisation’s future strategic direction.
Word Limit: 500-600 words per question (task 3A) excluding reference list and appendices
Reading/References: The topic and theoretical frameworks are supported by the use of at least 4 primary sources (e.g. refereed journal articles, textbooks, quality professional, government, company or media sources) that are directly relevant to the topic. Students must not use non-academic sources such as Wikipedia in preparing their case scenario.

Assessment Structure: Your Case Study analysis should include a short introduction, answers to the two (2) questions and at least three recommendations for the organisation’s future direction.
Assessment Task 3B – Personal Reflection and Case Study (20%)
This part of the assessment comprises of two (2) questions each worth 10 marks (total 20 marks). The two (2) questions will available via the LMS at the end of Week 12.
Students have an option of delivery of their personal insights in their reflection with the key criteria being that if must be verifiable (that is, that you have produced the work). Options include:
write approximately 500-600 words per question. You may refer to the website that relates to the case study provided. All references must be formatted using APA Style.
Document using video or an audio submission of your personal insights
E-Poster or power-point presentation
