PAC1100D Assessment 2 - Case study Essay and presentation 50% This assessment is comprised of the following 2 parts: 2.a Essay - 30% Submission due date/time: Week 5, 8.30am on the day of lecture - (draft submission, 10%) Week 9, 8.30am on the day of lecture – final submission (20%) Submission mode: Submit to Turnitin – link on PIBT portal An essay of 1,000-1,500 words answering ONE of the following questions. You must draw on at least THREE credible sources in your essay, including the reading chapter provided to you on Moodle. Your essay must be fully referenced (in-text and end-text) in the APA format, as per the ECU Referencing Guide. 2.b Presentation - 20% Due date: Presentations will take place in class during weeks 11 and 12 Based on your essay topic, design and deliver a five-minute presentation aimed at a professional audience, and drawing on the concepts and ideas from your research material. Your presentation will be assessed on both content and delivery. *Please refer to marking guides for both parts of this assessment. Topic 1: Cultural Differences Your Australian-based company is exploring new business opportunities in India and is sending a team over to Mumbai to meet with potential business partners. You have been asked to research the differences in cultural values that may affect the interaction between the Australian and Indian representatives. Describe the main cultural differences between Australian and Indian business practices. Explain how the Australian team may be more successful in its dealings with local potential partners in in India. In your answer, refer to Deresky’s ‘Understanding the role of culture’ posted in the documents’ folder and own research. Topic 2: Working in Teams Your manager has recently put you in charge of a team who will work closely together on the development of a new project. You will be responsible for planning and running meetings for the team. In your essay, discuss the importance of team meetings, outline some of the reasons that team meetings fail, and suggest how to maximize the success of meetings. Refer to Cardon, ‘Principles of Effective Team Communication’ (2014) and own research in your discussion. Learning outcomes: 1. Demonstrate cognitive and critical thinking skills. 2. Select, read, paraphrase, and summarise sources, applying the APA referencing conventions Draft submission instructions Draft submission is due before class in week 5 and is to be typed up and submitted via Turnitin link on Moodle. In your submission, you must include the following: • A full essay outline, using the headings in the Essay Plan Template document provided. • The entire introduction paragraph written in full. • A completed Individual Action Plan for the essay, using the template provided No word-count requirement for this element.
