Mr. Smith, the CEO of Transnational Education Group wants to increase the company’s revenue to 20 million next year from an average of 12 million over the past 10 years. Transnational Education Group owns Transnational University and a few colleges. Currently there are 20 learning centers nationwide with an academic workforce of 100 lecturers supported by non-academic (management) staffs of 60 in various departments like finance, student affairs, academic affairs, faculties, human resources, marketing and information system.
The company vision is to be recognized as a center for higher education producing top graduates that live up to the expectation of the corporate world. The company’s mission statement is to become a key pillar in nation building through nurturing and fostering of graduates that are well equipped with “real world practice” experience even before they graduated.
Economy is currently at a slower growth rate due to global economic uncertainty. Many other local universities or colleges are offering various incentives package to lure students into signing up with their respective institution. Lots of aggressive marketing activities were seen in the past few months to drive higher student admission rate. “Staff Pinching” was rampant of late. The turnover rate of academic staff (lecturers) has been higher than usual since the past many months. Transnational Universities also suffered a relatively high turnover rate of experience lecturers.
Students dropped out in Transnational Group were also high. Capacity of some of the 20 learning centers were also not fully utilized ie low number of students enrolled causing some of those centers operating at loss.
As a Vice President of Human Resource, you are required to draw up a Human Resource Strategic Plan to support the company’s strategic direction to achieve the targeted 20 million revenues in next year. In the process of doing so, here are some of the questions in your mind that you need to answer.
