Referencing Styles : APA • To learn about trade organizations and networking from the readings • To reflect on your experience with the guest speakers and participation in networking events Instructions: • 1) Briefly discuss the roles and functions of Global Affairs Canada, Ministry of Citizenship, Immigration and International Trade, Enterprise Toronto, EDC, TFO, CME, IE Canada, and bilateral trade organizations. 2) Provide a brief summary of the 6 articles: How to Build Your Network, A Smarter Way to Network, Effective Networking, How Leaders Create and Use Networks, It’s Not What You Know or Who You Know, It’s Where You Are, and How Will You Measure Your Life? 3) Discuss three most important things (for your future career) you have learned from the readings, the presentations by guest speakers in class, and the events you attended - Provide References right after your report; do not use a new page unnecessarily. • If you missed class and missed certain presentations, make sure to indicate that at the beginning. • If you attend events (CIM, Empire Club, College events, outside events related to your studies/career), discuss these events. Photos (black and white is fine) would be great. You need at least two good events in order to get up to 10% extra mark. Format: Your name and ID on top left (if there is no name, the mark is zero); title Assignment … at the centre; no need for cover page; in Word document, 12 point Times New Roman, single-spaced, 1.5 – 2 pages. Refer to all readings in class, especially articles on networking, in your writing. - If a student answers last-semester questions or uses translation tools, it is considered a violation of the Academic Honesty policy. Please make sure that you include a References section at the end to let readers know the sources you consult. Use APA properly. If you have not learned about APA, here is a summary: If you use a source to write a sentence, you must reference it both in-text citations (after the sentence) and in the Reference List. It you use word-for-word (i.e. copy) more than 6 words, you must put them in quotation marks and reference it immediately after the quote. Failing to acknowledge the source(s) you use is considered plagiarism. The general rule of thumb, as I frequently discussed in class, is never “copy and paste” without using quotation marks and acknowledging the source(s), because it will show in your Turnitin report when you submit your work to e-Centennial.
