Each student is to write an essay on their preferred way of practising as a social worker, drawing on critical theory and practice including radical, structural, social constructivism and post-modern social work perspectives.
Your essay should include:
An introduction to the topic focusing on the contribution of critical approaches, relating them to your preferred field of practice, social work role or level of intervention
An identification of key issues, for example discussions of the impact of political, economic, and social issues on current social work practice in this role or practice area
An analysis based on critical theory drawing on radical, structural and post modern practice theories, as well as current policy and practices
An evaluation of critical theory social work approaches in terms of their strengths and weaknesses
Critical theory and practice recommendations for you as a developing social work practitioner
It is expected that you will refer to a minimum of 12 articles/ readings in your essay.
