Assessment task 2: Manage project HR, information and communication
Information to students:
This assessment task is for your understanding of how to:
plan human resources, information and communication processes,
Implement project training and development of personnel
Implement project information and communication processes and assess outcomes
Lead the team and close the project
Your assessor will break the class into small work groups. Each person will be a project manager as well as take on a task or tasks as a human resource.
Answer Guide: This assessment task is to be typed. Information is required in a report style suggest using each step as a topic heading with the use of planning sheets where relevant.
You class is going on a three (3) day excursion to the Blue Mountains leaving Friday afternoon and returning Sunday afternoon. While in the Blue Mountains you will visit Scenic World.
You will be the project manager for this excursion.
The class group will be the human resources you will need for the successful planning and implementation of this project. You will also need to plan and manage the information and communication processes required for the project to succeed.
As a project manager, you need to manage the human resources (work group members) for the project. Complete the following steps and prepare a report using the points as headings or utilise the table example format on page 13 of your learner guide:
Determine the project tasks and the human resources that will be needed and the skills required to carry out the tasks.
Establish project organisation and structure to align to the existing individual and group competencies with project tasks.
Allocate people to the project tasks to meet planned work outputs throughout project timeline
Explain how you will apply human resources management (HRM) methods, techniques and tools to support engagement and performance of personnel

Identify, analyse and document information requirements, as the basis for communication planning.
Incorporate input from stakeholders (your workgroup)
Develop a communication management plan to support achievement of project objectives
Establish and maintain a designated project-management information system to ensure quality, validity, timeliness and integrity of information and communication

You and your group have planned the human resources, information and communication processes. You now need to implement these and identify any training and development for your people. Complete the following steps and prepare a report using the points as headings:
Negotiate, define and communicate in writing clear project role descriptions
Set key performance indicators for each task
Manage generation, gathering, storage, retrieval, analysis and dissemination of information by project staff and stakeholders (your work group)
Implement, modify, monitor and control designated information-validation processes to optimise quality and accuracy of data
Implement and maintain appropriate communication networks
Identify and resolve communication and information-management system issues
Identify, plan and implement ongoing development and training of project team members to support personnel and project performance

Your project is completed, you have all the information necessary to carry out the excursion with the class group. You need to assess the information and communications outcomes and finalise the project. Complete the following steps and prepare a report (minimum 500 words) using the points as headings to explain how you:
