You can add/remove snap-ins. • MMC can be used to manage local settings of both local and remote servers • Add the following snap-ins: – Device Manager (Local Computer) – Disk Management (Local Computer) – Event Viewer (Local) – Windows Firewall – Task Scheduler (Local)ITNE2003 MMC – Microsoft Management Console Add/Remove Snap-inITNE2003 MMC – Microsoft Management ConsoleITNE2003 Select snap-Ins management targetITNE2003 Configure Event Viewer Snap-In Select “Create Custom View” menuITNE2003 On Standalone Event Viewer Select Create Custom ViewITNE2003 Custom View • Create a custom view with the following properties: – Logged: Last 24 hours – Event Type: Critical, Error, Warning – Event logs: Windows Logs -> System; Applications and Services Logs -> Hardware Events; and Applications and Services Logs -> MicrosoftITNE2003 Custom ViewITNE2003 Performance Monitor Select Performance MonitorITNE2003 Performance Monitor Click on the Performance Monitor tabITNE2003 Perfmon – Adding custom counters Click on AddITNE2003 Perfmon – Adding custom counters Scroll to Processor, select all, click on addITNE2003 Perfmon – Adding custom counters • Press OK and close the window • The processor graphs should starting to be drawnITNE2003 Your assignment task for this week • Record date, time • Record all configuration updates you have made to the server during this practical tasks. Add screen shots if necessary to highlight the changes. • Report any errors/warnings from the event viewer • Create a custom counter on performance monitor that shows processor time, TCP established connections, system processes and thread parameters. – Collect performance information for 5 min. – Report the performance values of each parameter (with screen shots) • Record the server status at the time you have done everything e.g. running normally or any observable issues.
