You are required to observe a child perform a fundamental movement skill and categorise the movements into developmental stages and determine the level of proficiency of the movements. In order for you to observe and assess effectively the developmental stages and proficiency level of a fundamental movement skill, your first task is to design a qualitative checklist for evaluating a child’s basketball bouncing skill. In your design of the checklist, which preferably should be in a tabulated form, the following information should be included: • Stages of motor skill development o Initial Stage o Elementary Stage o Mature Stage • Phases of motor skill performance o Preparatory Phase o Execution Phase o Follow-through phase The checklist you designed should track movements of critical body segments and limbs during various phases of motor skill performance. Using the checklist you have developed, observe and assess the level of proficiency of an 8 year old child performing a basketball bouncing skill. In your answer, you should: • Categorise the child’s stage of motor skill development • Through a series of still images, identify and describe areas of motor skill proficiency and nonproficiency • Recognise and solve movement errors pertinent to the child’s stage of motor skill development (20 marks) Question 3 This question requires students to apply motor learning concepts to the coaching of fundamental movement skills. Based on the assessment results in Question 2, classify the stage of motor learning the child is in according to Fitts and Posner’s Three Stage Model and explain why. As a coach, discuss how you would help the child improve his/her basketball bouncing skill through the following strategies: • Instruction and feedback • Practice conditions (20 marks) ---- END OF ASSIGNMENT ----
