Section 2: Focus
Aim/Problem Statement
The aim of the project is to create an awareness within the GSM Community of the implication of prostate cancer in men. Having been approach by Guys Cancer research through the management of GSM to educate student on implication of the disease. The essence was due to the rising Prostate cancer in the country which is a disease. The essence was due to the rising Prostate cancer in the country which is a very slow progressing disease that affect men. In fact, many men die of old age, but ever knowing they had prostate cancer. Several studies have indicated that perhaps about 80% of all men in their eighties had prostate cancer when they died, but nobody knew, not even the doctor. There is therefore a need to create an awareness of the disease to improve knowledge and for men to understand the early signs that need to be watch out for of indication of developing prostate cancer which may lead to early detection and cure, thereby saving more lives. The team will be charity race to raise awareness on the diseases. This event will be scheduled to one or twice a month every Saturday towards the achievement of the event aim.
Learning Outcomes
As a results of this project I am able:
1. Build a portfolio of evidence using a range of methodologies and activities (log books, critical incident diaries; employer or supervisor feedback).
2. Identify and articulate the development of work related skills mapped to evidence drawn from either the project or placement.
3. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the background and context relative to the chosen project or placement opportunity.
4. Evaluate the effectiveness of preparation and planning undertaken prior to the placement or project implementation.
The project will also enable to improve on my planning and organisation skills to enhance my event deliverance experience.
Section 3: Justification
The team was approach by the Guys Cancer Research to create an awareness on Prostate cancer within the student community. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men this does not include counting skin cancer. The cancer Research UK research shows that it is also one of the leading causes of cancer death among men. “Many of the risk factors for prostate cancer such as your age, race, and family history cannot be controlled” (AmericanCancerSociety, 2017). However, there are various things that can be done by men to lower the risk of have prostate cancer. This event awareness campaign is expected to create an awareness on the various methods used to lower prostate cancer in men, it will also fill knowledge gap and improve the understanding of the subject matter among the participant at the campaign. Organizing the event campaign will enable the understanding of the process involve in planning and delivering of event campaign of various nature. The learning experience that will be gotten from the campaign will help improve my employment prospects and my research capabilities in delivering an event campaign in the nearest future.
The use of a charity race to create awareness will involve volunteer participant running for prostate cancer. Because the race will go through a determine route within the Greenwich community and the participant will be wearing a branded cancer vest and shirt to show support. It is believed that the race will also and the increase of awareness for the disease and for the final exhibition awareness to be held on campus.
Section 4: Methods
I have chosen internal GSM departmental project as my method pathway. The reason is the event involve creating awareness for prostate cancer and will involve planning and organisation to deliver the event. The use of project will allow for the show casing of the various activities that will be line up to deliver the event to the event participants. Since the project involves a campaign on awareness on prostate cancer, the use of primary sources of data to explain to the audience how prostate cancer has led to the death of many and what can be done to prevent it will be utilised in delivering the project. Two types of data collection methods will be utilised during the event. Primary source of data will utilised in addition to secondary data sources. Primary source of data will include discussion and interviews of leading cancer research personnel that will feature during the event. Student will be able to ask questions as it related to prostate cancer improving their knowledge and awareness of the disease. The use of secondary data will also be utilised by members of teams. This will be in form of previous research documents and journals. That have been written on prostate cancer. This will form a body of knowledge that will help the team to achieve the aim of disseminating knowledge during the awareness campaign.
To finance the event, the team will utilise crowd funding, crowd funding “is a practice which involves funding a project or venture by raising many tiny amounts of money from a large number of people, typically via the internet or through social media” (Gilian and Allan, 2014). For the purpose of this event, the group intend to utilise the use of social media strategy by creating a WhatsApp group and Facebook page to solicit support to hose the twice a month charity race and the final event. The student community will be encouraging to donate little amount. The forecast target is to raised fund of £1,000.00 which shall be donated at the end of the event to a charity to be chosen by the group involve in cancer research.

Section 6: Evidence of accomplishment
By the end of this project I will produce a portfolio containing the learning contract and associated appendices.
Supporting evidence (log books, critical incident diaries, and employer and/or Tutor feedback)

A. Ethnic/Non-Disclosure Form
What is a Learning Contract/Agreement/Plan?
It is a formal document that defines what is expected from you while working on the work based project. The learning contract sets out the parameters for the task you are expected to undertake so as to meet the assessment criteria (learning outcomes). You would need to focus on the elements given in the above pre-format for learning and delineate the details in the learning contract/plan and focus on the following key generic components:
- What are you going to learn?
- How are you going to learn it?
- What objectives are you going to set?
- What are the target date(s) for each activity and completion?
- How are you going to know that you have learned and achieved the set objectives?
- What evidence are you going to generate to prove that you have learned it?
This is your responsibility to tailor the above learning contract to the case study. You are required to explicitly articulate what objectives you are going to set, what activities would be undertaken, which sources of information or data needs to be collected to ensure that the learning outcomes are achieved. You would need to discuss and seek guideline from Tutors/supervisors. You would need to agree/negotiate the learning contract with your Tutors/supervisors, include the signed copy of the learning contract in final submission and submit it along with the portfolio. It is to ensure that transparent, feasible and verifiable set of activities are established in the learning contract which enables you to meet the learning outcomes of the module and achieves the assessment criteria.
