Page 1 of 4 BEN610: Project Management Principles Assessment 1 (30%): Individual Case Study (Post-Project Review and Report) Due Date: 11:59pm on Sunday, 27 August 2017 (Week 5) Description Conduct a post-project review and report on a completed project. The post-project review must analyse the success or failure of the applied (or failure to apply) project management framework, principles, processes and / or practices. The post-project report must provide recommendations, based on: • How future project management performance could be improved through the adoption of the applied project delivery process as identified from your postproject review; or • How future project management performance could be improved through the adoption of the theoretical project delivery process as identified from your research into project management. Objective The objective of this assignment is to simulate a post-project review and report. This assessment will evaluate your general understanding of the theory as presented in the first five weeks of the unit. Report Requirements (Strict adherence is required) You are to write a 1,500-2,000-word report (words beyond 2000 will not be marked nor attributed to the mark) analysing the performance of a completed project. The report will record details of the post-project review of a project that has been completed within the last 10 years. The project chosen must be recognisable and have sufficient information available within the public domain to undertake this activity.Page 2 of 4 The report must analyse the project’s use of project management (PM) framework/ methodology, principles, processes and practices that are discussed within the course materials; and best practices using different sources (e.g., books, journal articles, websites, news articles, reports, interviews, and empirical data). You need to provide a critical analysis of the project using the appropriate PM terminologies or concepts. The review must analyse the success or failure of the project and provide recommendations on how future project performance could be improved through the application of the lessons learned. It is suggested you select three aspects of the project based on the project management knowledge areas outlined I the lectures and each of these. The report must include an introduction and conclusion containing your recommendation. The post-project report must be submitted in a report format and appropriate referencing (this assignment requires you to undertake significant research of others work): Need to reference: • When you are using or referring to somebody else's words or ideas from an article, magazine, book, newspaper, song, web page, computer program, letter, advertisement, or any other medium. • When you use information gained through interviewing another person. • When you copy the exact words or a "unique phrase" from somewhere. • When you reprint any diagrams, illustrations, charts, and pictures. • When you use ideas that others have given you in conversations or over email. No need to reference: • When you are writing about your own experiences; your own observations, such as your own experimental results; your own insights; your own thoughts; your own conclusions about a subject. • When you are using "common knowledge" - folklore, common sense observations, shared information within your field of study or cultural group. The referencing format to be used in QUT APA.Page 3 of 4 Formatting Requirements and Other Details The report format must comply with the following: • Report written in a format that can be uploaded onto Turnitin. • Length: 1,500-2,000 words (excluding table of contents, appendices and references). o Report content exceeding the maximum word count will not count towards the assignment. o Appendices should only include additional information that is supportive of critical information discussed in the body of the report, attach it via appendices. o The use of tables should be limited to comparison and summation of data. o The academic report will not require the use of an executive summary. • Font formatting: o Heading – Arial 14 o Subheadings – Arial 12 o Text – Times New Roman 12 o Line spacing – 1.5 times o Margins – All 2.54 cm • Citation and referencing in accordance with QUT APA style (Please refer to QUT cite|write available at: http://www.citewrite.qut.edu.au/) • File Saved as – (Surname – First name – Student Number – Assignment 1) and submitted online (electronically) on the Unit (BEN610) Blackboard site using Turnitin.
