1 Assignment 1, Part 2. Key Criteria Exceeds Expectations (High Distinction) 85-100% Exceeds Expectations (Distinction) 75 - 84% Meets Expectations (Credit) 65 – 74% Meets Expectations (Pass) 50 – 64% Below Expectations (Fail) below 50% Professional presentation and accuracy of work For high distinction work, we expect things to be perfect or close to perfect in this unit. So we’d expect little things (correct word count +/- 10%), consistent font, consistent line spacing, spelling and grammar. At the other end of the spectrum, students who produce work that is shoddy, repetitive, inconsistent, badly spelt, showing obvious signs of being rushed, will get below 50% Quality and appropriateness of references & accuracy of references For high distinction, perfect APA referencing. Accurate as well as correct referencing (the references should be linked accurately to the statements). At the other end of the spectrum, students showing little or no regard for APA referencing, plagiarism, or ‘cheating’ by providing false references or references NOT linked to the statements they are attached to, will get below 50% Feasibility of project within time frame The high distinction student will be able to indicate clearly that they have thought through the project, and are able to execute a quality project in the time frame. At the other end of the spectrum, students who provide vague or highly ambitious projects that simply can’t be managed within a term will get below 50% Aims and objectives/research questions The aims/objectives/research questions are stated clearly, linked with the data source obtained, can be answered within the scope of the term. At the other end of the spectrum, students whose aims/objectives/research questions are very poorly articulated, very vague, and cannot really be answered will get below 50% Preliminary critical literature review The assessment presents a detailed and focused summary of the ideas presented; drawing clear and well thought-out conclusions. The literature review is critical (that is it sees the links between different elements of the literature, understands the strengths and weaknesses). Include more than 10 references of quality peer-reviewed literature for HD quality. At the other end of the spectrum, students who present less than 10 references, poor quality references, references poorly linked to the topic, poorly thought out reviews that do not compare and contrast, let alone critique literature, will get less than 50%. Organisation of the project For high distinction work, the student should present an overall project that is clearly organised, easy to understand, and clearly indicates that it will be carried out professionally. At the other end of the spectrum, students whose projects are poorly organised, repetitive, difficult to understand and generally unprofessional in planning will get less than 50% Written communication Quality of writing at a very high standard. Paragraphs are coherently connected to each other. Correct grammar, spelling and punctuation. At the other end of the spectrum, students who present written work that is poorly written, repetitive, with paragraphs badly organised or non-existent, and poor spelling and grammar and pronunciation, will get less than 50%.
