Task details:
This assessment is to raise your level of awareness of technology.
Organisations are constantly trying to improve their internal processes, products, and services.
Exploiting technology is an obvious way of doing this. Business operations, products, services and even
the structure of the organisation could change by the introduction of new technologies. One definition
of ‘technology’ provided in Week 1 was: “…the knowledge, products, processes, tools, and systems
used in the creation of goods or in the provision of services”. Your task for this assignment is to
research the different components of technology mentioned in the definition and describe different
examples of those components. For example, you may wish to describe a piece of hardware (iPhone), a
software application (an ‘App’) and a process (Radio frequency Identification RFID).
Your Portfolio/Report should include an Introduction, Description of your three selected technology
components and a Conclusion. Each example should have approximately 500 words of description of
the technology component and be supported by relevant images and website links.
Referencing
You must use the Harvard Referencing style throughout your assessment and include an accurate
reference list at the end of the assessment.
Submission Requirements
Assessments must be submitted via the Blackboard unit site through the ‘Assessments’ facility.
Do not email the assessment to either the convenor or tutor unless you are unable to submit
the assessment item through Blackboard.
Keep a MS Word backup of your Portfolio/Report submissions. If your assessment goes astray,
whether your fault or ours, you will be required to re-produce it.
It is expected that all work submitted, will have been edited for spelling, grammar and clarity.
The word count does not include references or appendices.
